While the early season saw temperatures that reminded us of summer, this week saw an abrupt change of seasons and put us smack dab in the middle of cross country season. With the temperatures hovering around the 50 degree mark, the only thing that was hot was the racing. One of the highlights of the day would be the Division 3 matchup between Hopkinton, Monadnock and Mascenic. Mascenic was tapped as the team to beat in the season preview, with Monadnock and Hopkinton listed a potential spoilers. Hopkinton ran big last weekend at the Manchester Invite and looked to be the team in the driver’s seat going into the day’s contest.
Starting off the day’s racing schedule, the girls race got going from the gun Sarah Nadeau took the race out hot, followed by the Monadnock duo of Kayla Blair and Joelle LaFreniere, Michaella Conery of Concord, Mascenic’s Samantha Bilodeau and Madison Labrie, Conant’s Isabella Mormando, as well as Olivia Krause and Sohani Demian of Bow. Nadeau continued to string out the field, going through the mile in 6 minutes, 3 seconds with the chase pack back 30 meters. Nadeau would stay out front the entire way, winning in 19 minutes, 56 seconds, tracked by Blair the whole way. Bilodeau closed out the final mile moving through the field to finish third. Conery was joined by three of her teammates in Sarah Zarakotas, Gabrielle Czerula, and Skye Reese for places 4th through 7th. Labrie of Mascenic broke up the party by splitting Kate Andy out of five strong by Concord, with Monadnock’s Lafreniere rounding out the top ten.
Concord ran away with this one, 31 points to Monadnock’s 75 points. Bow finished 5 points behind Monadnock and 17 in front of Mascenic. Hopkinton rounded out the top five with 104 points.
Inspired by the homecoming festivities and teammate Nadeau’s win in the girl’s race, Dom Repucci of Hopkinton wasted no time stringing out the field. The contingent of Alexander Saveliev, Oliver Spenser, Forest MacKenzie, and Nate Nichols of Concord followed, along with James Elmour and Dawson Adams of Monadnock, Conant’s Dane Seppala as well as Avery Traffie and Jake Movsessian of Mascenic. Repucci never let off the gas, rolling through the mile in 4 minutes, 52 seconds with the rest of the field stretched out behind. Over the final two miles Saveliev distanced himself slightly from the rest of the field and would finish there. Repucci stayed out the entire way, finishing in 16 minutes, 3 seconds. On the lap Traffie and Movsessian made a march to the front, closing the gap on Elmour. Traffie would open it up even more, finishing third, with Elmour and Movsessian finishing in that order but with the same finishing time. The final five spots were filled with Spenser, MacKenzie, Seppala, Nichols and Adams.
Concord cleaned house, 37 to 61, over Mascenic. Mascenic won the battle between the D3 teams, ten points ahead of Monadnock with 71, with Hopkinton in 4th with 75 and Bow rounding out the fifth spot with 124 points.

Nice wins by Sarah Nadeau and Dom Repucci. Those times are pretty quick considering the course. While relatively flat, there is no surface that has solid footing or great traction. They were both working and it shows in the results.
