81st New England Championships: What to Watch For NH!!!

Meet Information via Lancer Timing.com!

The 81st Annual New England Cross Country Championships are Saturday, untitled shoot-433November 14th at Thetford Academy in Thetford, Vt.  The Girls’ Race is at 11:30 and the Boys’ Race is at 12:30. If you are unaware, the races feature the top 6 teams and top 25 individuals from the 5 participating New England states (Massachusetts does not participate).

This year’s edition in particular features 1 of the fastest harriers in the country.  US #4, Hannah Debalsi of Staples, Ct. will be defending her 2013 and 2014 titles attempting to win the title for the 3rd consecutive year. Can Oyster River’s Maegan Doody, Coe-Brown’s Elisabeth Danis, or Exeter’s Jaqueline Gaughan give DeBalsi a bit of competition?  What else should NH Cross Country fans watch for this Saturday?

  • How high will NH State Champion, Inter-Lakes Cam Daly, and Timberlane’s Liam Kimball finish??  Does the weather forecast favor either or both of these two?  Can Daly improve on his 2014 9th place finish?  Can Kimball improve on his 13th place finish?  Both raced Woods Trail earlier this fall, so both would seem to benefit.
  • untitled shoot-225How high will NH’s best boys’ team, Mike Clark-coached Pinkerton Academy finish?  Yes they are going up against favorite Northeast #3 LaSalle of Rhode Island, as well as perennial powerhouse Bishop Hendricken, but their 16:09 average time at Derryfield should translate well to the hills of Thetford.
  • How will the Final NH Rankings shake out??  There has been a lot of movement the last couple weeks as teams raced on the same courses, the same day and head to head at Meet of Champions. With the top 6 teams once again facing off, there can still be movement in the season’s final week.
  • On the girls’ side, can Doody improve on last year’s 3rd place finish?  What about Danis and her 7th place? They both are 2 of the best in the history of NH XC.  How will they adjust to muddy hills of Vermont?  NH girls seem to be quite competitive on paper, and with the New England and National experience of these girls, who knows? Could Thetford feel like Derryfield come Saturday?
  • Can Coe-Brown and Pinkerton challenge US #24 LaSalle?  After adding an all-state untitled shoot-447transfer, LaSalle looks like they will repeat.  However, both the Bears and Trailblazers seem to be clicking on all cylinders and with the forecast becoming a bit challenging, will the location of this year’s event become more of an equalizer?  Also, never count out home state favorite Champlain Valley from making their presence known on their state championship course!

All in all, Good Luck NH!!!  We are all pulling for you to be successful!

Regardless, NHCC will be there taking photos and attempting to provide Live Twitter Updates.

Results will be posted on LancerTiming.com!
