Congratulations NH! Yesterday was quite the show! A track and field meet accurately representing how strong our state is in athletics! There were showdowns, surprises, and NH State Champions crowned.

In one of the closest races of the day, it was Timberlane senior Liam Kimball holding off challenge after challenge from Inter-Lakes Cam Daly over the second half of the 1600. Both ran gutsy races with Kimball bravely leading and fending off Daly especially off the final turn and down the ultimate straightaway. Kimball claimed the title in 4:12.98 to Daly’s 4:13.95.
What could be considered a surprise was the outcome of the Alex Curtis v. Corinne Kennedy showdown in the High Hurdles. The White Mountains senior, Curtis edged Lebanon junior Kennedy 15.35 to 15.37, one of the closest race of the day! Kennedy would get some ‘payback’ if you will, in the 300 Hurdles winning in 43.38 to Curtis’s 44.45.
The boys 200 did not disappoint with the Concord duo of Angel Feliz and Dalton Mutz placed 1-2 in 22.05 and 22.27, edging pre-race favorite Sebastian Eaton (Souhegan). At least on this day, Feliz lay claim to the title of NH’s Best Sprinter by sweeping the 100 (11.09) and 200. Don’t feel bad for the junior Saber as Eaton crushed the 400 to take home the state title in 49.81. Keep an eye on the Mutz and Eaton rivalry as they both will be back next year!
The boys javelin materialized as maybe one of the upsets of the day. Central’s Jacob Stanko, current NH record holder with a Division 1 toss of 200’9″, had to be the pre-meet favorite. However, Timberlane’s Kyle Faucher unleashed a chuck of 196’1″ to Stanko’s 186’6″. That’s why titles are not determined on paper!
In the 3200, Exeter’s Jackie Gaughan pulled away from Coe-Brown’s Liz Danis over the last 3 laps to win in 10:34.19.
Although, Oyster River’s Maegan Doody did not break the state record, she put
on quite the show with Bedford’s Leya Salis and Merrimack Valley’s Kristie Schoffield playing the co-stars. In a demonstration of determination, Doody pulled the field the entire 1600 to finish in 4:47.85 to Salis’s 4:52.46 and Schoffield’s 4:58.45. Believe it or not, the more competitive race was the 800 which had the same order of finish but both Salis and Schoffield pushed Doody all the way to the line! The trio was separated by 1 second with Doody crossing the line in 2:11.43, Salis 2:12.26, and Schoffield 2:12.75! PHENOMENAL!
Random Good Stuff
Both 4×800 meter relays kicked things off on the track in exciting fashion. Coe-Brown girls, off a 2:14 Brooke Laskowsky anchor leg split, brought Bears from 5th place to the victory. While the boys from Hopkinton represented the small (but very strong) Division III with Dom Repucci anchoring them to the state title.
Nashua North boys beat the Concord boys by a mere .01 to claim the 4×100 in the days’ closest race!
Kudos to the Alvirne distance duo of Noah Bellomo and Kendall Westhoff who each claimed their first title in the 800 and 3200 respectively. Bellomo held off a hard charging Tim Zepf (Trinity) to win the half in 1:56.28 to 1:56.31, while Westhoff held off OR’s Patrick O’Brien 9:24 to 9:25.
Even though there was no team scoring, the Milford girls put on quite the display winning 5 events highlighted by besting their own state record in the 4×100 meter relay. They were led by senior Olivia Rougeau who swept the long and high jumps. Also a senior, Nicole McMorrow continued her supremacy in the Triple Jump while freshman phenom Viankah Williams continued her domination in the 200. Sprinkle in Amy Arena’s 5th place 200 and Rebecca Durham’s 6th place 1600 and Milford has quite the contingent heading to Connecticut next weekend.
An obvious thank you to the Winnacunnet High School community for being gracious and accommodating hosts! And also to Lancertiming and the NH State Officials for a superior, efficient and well run track and field meet! Also a great representation of what NH Track and Field is all about!
