As advertised, the 2016 Nashua North-South Invitational had a little of everything: several NH ranked teams battling to close finishes and tremendous individuals cruising to easy wins. With the girls varsity separating 3 teams by only 10 points, and the boys title won by only one point, NH cross country is alive, strong, and exciting this early season.
Pinkerton’s Maison D’Amelio took control of the girls race 
within the first mile to cruise to a twenty second victory (19:03) over second place Lauren Robinson of Nashua South and upstart freshman Keegan Pepin of Manchester Central. While the individual race was never in doubt, the team competition was close the entire race between Pinkerton (NH-2), Alvirne (NH-6) and Merrimack (NH-7). In the end, all three teams were relatively even through their respective 4th scorers, leaving the all important 5th woman to decide things. Alvirne’s Jenna Bradish was the fastest of each team’s 5th. This along with Alvirne packing their first 3 scorers, Shaylyn Saunders, Katie Bellomo, Jessica Fontaine in the top eight and a solid performance by Amber Bardsley, brought home the win for the Lady Broncos with 58 points. Pinkerton was second with 63 points, while Merrimack, led by Lauren Brennan’s 6th place finished 3rd with 68.
Over a fast opening mile in the boys race, Nashua North’s David Vorbach opened up a comfortable lead. Relaxing the 2nd mile allowed Londonderry’s Chris Zaino to creep back in it, but Zaino would get no closer than 8 seconds as Vorbach pressed the last mile to earn the victory in 15:58. This was Vorbach’s 3rd consecutive win in as many weeks.
The team race was even more exciting with Concord (NH-1), Nashua North (NH-2) and Pinkerton (NH-3) would wage battle over the Mines Falls flat and fast course. Last week at the Cofrin Classic, North placed second by 1 point over Pinkerton, with Concord winning. Well this week, Concord made it 2 consecutive invitational wins, but this time it was their turn to win by only 1 point over a spirited North team. Concord placed all five scorers, James Wilkes, Forest Mackenzie, Oliver Spencer, Ryan Devine and Eli Boesch-Dining in the top 13 to seal the win. Obviously North benefitted from
Vorbach’s victory and Connor Muise’s 4th place finish, but the Crimson Tide’s placed 5 ahead of North’s 4th.
