In only its 6th installment, the R.E.A.L. Londonderry Invitational has become one of the more competitive meets in NH. Not being a regional championships, its purpose is to be a ‘Last Chance’ meet for athletes to qualify or simply lay down their best performances of the season. Events to Watch For:
Girls 4×800 – D2 powerhouse Souhegan v. D1 Bishop Guertin…’nuff said.
Girls 100/200 – Looking to be a preview of sorts of Division 1 State Championships with Central’s Katya Levasseur, Bedford’s Hannah Mikolm South’s Crismeily Borg, Pinkerton’s Amelia Graves, and Londonderry’s Gretchen McGrath all involved!
Girls 400 or 800 – Hurdling extraordinaire Corinne Kennedy is entered in both! She doesn’t compete in the 400 or 800 often, but when she does it is always FAST!! However, in both events she will be taking on come solid contenders in Amelia Graves (Pinkerton – 400), Caroline Fischer (Bishop Guertin-400), and Britney Johnson (Pinkerton-800).
Girls 1600 – Souhegan’s Madeline Hunt v. Milford’s Rebecca Durham. With seed times separated by about 1 second, these are two of the best in New England who seem to leave their best for the end of seasons!
Girls 3200 – it would be very interesting should Durham choose to run the 3200 fresh. It would certainly be a battle since Souhegan’s Arielle Zlotnick is coming off her breakthrough performance at Loucks, running 10:59.16.
Girls Hurdles – Can Pinkerton’s Maria Virga pull off the sweep?
Girls Throws – Speaking of sweeps, don’t look now but Lebanon’s Kath Merchant is top seed in all 3 throwing events!
Boys 100 and 200 – Similar to the girls, all the D1 players are slated to show. From North’s randall Jenkins to Merrimack’s Jacob Marden to Pinkerton’s Jadyn Ruimwijk and Nico Buccieri, it should be a D1 preview.
Boys 400 – Noah Woodman (Pinkerton) v. Mike Giraldi (Bedford). They are only separated by .01 and both could break the 50 point barrier!
Boys 800 – 2016 MOC Champ Alvirne’s Noah Bellomo is running the 800 fresh! How fast can he go???
Pole Vault – Not too often do we see a 14’6″ pole vaulter in NH. Take a moment Saturday to watch Keene junior Scott Rathbun compete. You could be observing a future state record holder.
Long/Triple Jump – Looking to watch a clinic? North’s Jordan Buckmire is top ranked in both with Triston Delicema right behind him in the Triple. We can’t rule out Lebanon’s super sophomore Ryan Sullivan in the Long either!
Throws – With no dominant thrower in all three events, these should turn out to be some good clean competition!
