Yesterday marked the grand opening for Phillips Exeter Academy’s new indoor track facility. The facility is breathtaking. As a coach of one of the teams that was fortunate enough to compete in the yesterday’s meet, I can only hope that the positive relationship between PEA and the New Hampshire Winter Track League will continue.
I came away extremely impressed with everything. The moment I walked into the track facility, I was blown away with how nice the complex was. Sorry UNH, sorry Dartmouth College, PEA has the nicest indoor track in New Hampshire. You could tell that a lot of thought went into the layout and 
design. PEA was an excellent host. The meet featured Seacoast teams including Winnacunnet, Exeter, Epping, Newmarket, Portsmouth, Oyster River and Phillips Exeter Academy. The meet also had FAT timing and due to the size of the meet (only qualifiers), it flew right along.
I also want to take a moment to thank Larry Martin and Amy Sanborn of the New Hampshire Winter Track League for giving us public schools the opportunity to be a part of this special moment. I would also like to thank the PEA team and coaches, specifically Hillary Hall, for hosting the meet and allowing us the opportunity to compete.
As for the meet, the track is FAST and it also provided excellent opportunities in the throws and jumps. The competing teams were allowed to wear ⅛ spikes and for some teams this was the first time in spikes all season. Billy Powers didn’t disappoint clocking a 7.43 in the hurdles and 36.66 in the 300m, outleaning Dante Radagonda from Exeter (36.89). The boys 4×800 was one of the louder events on the track as the home host PEA sophomore sensation William Coogan caught Winnacunnet at the line for the win in 8:22.87. Exeter’s Jake Langevin cleared a state leading 6’4” in the high jump. The boys’ meet was won by D2
Portsmouth High School by two points over D1 Winnacunnet.
On the girls side Jackie Gaughan (Exeter) put up a facility record 1500m that may stand for a while running 4:37.64. Devin McClain of Oyster River had an excellent double clocking 7.45 in the dash and 43.43 in the 300m. Acadia Momm-White of Portsmouth was another double winner taking the hurdles in 8.66 and the Long Jump in 16 feet.
Phillips Exeter won the girls’ meet 77 to Oyster River’s 72.5 points.
The meet was a great tune-up for all the schools competing in next weeks State Championships, but the story of the day was the new amazing indoor facility in New Hampshire.
