What to Watch For: 2018 Nashua North Invitational

The beginning of this track season has been challenging for all schools in the northeast.  Frigid temperatures, rain, and snow have prevented many schools from having access to their track and field events.  As I said in last years post the Nashua North Invitational is really the starting point of all big invitationals across the state.  This year will be no different. Lancer Timing and the Nashua North coaching staff have done a great job making sure the meet is well run and organized.  This year the meet with be FAT, have certified jump pits, and scales for the throwing events, meaning all performances will be eligible for the MOC entry! As I write this preview the weather looks promising, so there’s a chance for big time performances.  It helps that many Massachusetts teams and the larger New Hampshire teams in the state attend. It is the first weekend of New Hampshire school vacation and the last weekend of school vacation for Massachusetts schools so predicting who will be away on vacation can be challenging.

Girls to watch in this meet include Grace Devanny of Concord.  She was the runner up in the 100m and 200m last year and could look to take the crown in those events this year.  She could be facing Amelia Graves of Pinkerton, last years 400m champ.  Distance stars Brittney Johnson of Pinkerton (last years 1600m champ), and BG’s Caroline Fischer (last year’s 800m champ) should be in the mix in the distance events. Ellie Johnston of Exeter is the top returner in both hurdle races and will look to improve on her 2nd and 4th place performances from a year ago. Johnston will be challenged by Sydney Lewis of Nashua South in the hurdles.  Sydney is also an excellent long and high jumper and may be in one or both of those. Alana Choat of Nashua North is the defending champ in the triple jump and Robyn Krafft of Milford is the returning champ in the discus.

Boys to watch in the meet begins with Jadyn Ruimwijk of Pinkerton.  He will be the man to beat in anything between 100m to 400m, and was last year’s champ in the 200m. Jake Winslow of Exeter was runner-up in the 800m last year and will challenge in one of the distance events.  He will have competition from two competitors running on their home track. David Vorbach and Max Ireland of Nashua North will challenge in the distances. Adam Spencer or Pinkerton and Billy Powers of Winnacunnet may meet in the two hurdles races. Triston Delicema of Nashua North is the top returning jumper in both the long and the triple.  Kaleal Cerafici of Pinkerton is the top returning boy in the shot, John King of Pinkerton is one to watch in the Jav, and Jeremiah Swett of Exeter is one to watch in the discus.
