The weather forecast changed just in time for the 11th Annual Seacoast Championship meet at Exeter High School.  Twelve Seacoast teams converged with the same goals in mind, improving individual seeds for next week’s state meet, stay healthy, and compete for the team championship.  The NHTF/Runner’s Alley Champions tent was up and running for interviews and the athletes that won events enjoyed Seacoast “CHAMPION” t-shirts for the first time. This meet didn’t disappoint.

On the boys side pre-met favorite Winnacunnet brought their “A Game” with a dominant team performance scoring 149 points.  They used their exceptional depth and star power to outdistance runner-up Exeter (109 points). The Portsmouth boys finished 3rd with 56 points.

The meet started off with the 110 Hurdles where Billy Powers of Winnacunnet beat a competitive field of runners with a time of 14.45 into a headwind. Orion Clachar of Coe Brown was 2nd in 15.57.

Sanborn senior Kashief Bogannam entered the finals as the 4 seed but bested the field to win the 100 meter dash in 11.61.  Bogannam came back in the 200 meter but had to settle for runner-up to Powers of Winnacunnet. Powers also won the 300 hurdles establishing a new meet record in the process with a time of 39.32.  Exeter sophomore star Dante Radagonda won the 400 meter run in a respectable time of 51.68. Oyster River used perfect handoffs to win the 4×100 in 45.16.

The distance events were the Colin Donnelly of Winnacunnet and Jake Winslow of Exeter show.  Winslow used a strong last lap to win the 1600 over Donnelly. Winslow also cruised to victory in the 800 meter while Donnelly ran a tactical race to take down the 3200 meter run in 9:53.45.

In the fields Exeter’s Jake Langevin beat teammate Quinn Mantegari in the high jump with a clearance of 6’ 3” to Mantegari’s 6’ 1”. Cam Duncan of Portsmouth won the Long jump with a leap of 20’ 10.25” and finished second to Bogannam in the triple jump.  Sophomore Chris Mood of Portsmouth tied the meet record in the pole vault going over 12’ 7”. James Phennicle of Winnacunnet took the shot put with a throw of 44’ 6”, Jeremiah Swett of Exeter won the discus with a throw of 146’ 11”, and Zach Andrews of Somersworth won the javelin with a throw of 155’ 11”.

The meet concluded with Winnacunnet winning the boys 4×400 relay and just missing the meet record with a time of 3:31.44.  There were two awards given out to the athlete that scored the most points in the field events and the most points on the track.  Billy Powers won the track award by scoring 23 points and Cam Duncan won the field award by scoring 18 points.

On paper the girls meet figured to be close between Exeter, Coe-Brown, Sanborn, Portsmouth, and Oyster River.  The balanced attack on the track and in the field events proved to be enough for Exeter as they took down the team title with 100 points over second place Oyster River (92 points), and Sanborn (84 points).

The sprinting events were dominated by Freshman star Kristina Allard.  Allard won the 100 meter dash in 12.98, 200 meter run in 26.65, finished second in the long jump and won the triple jump in 35’ 8”.  If there was an athlete of the meet she would have won it, scoring 38 points by herself. Oyster River used their exceptional depth on the track to score many points.  They scored 14 points in the 200 meter, 6 in the 100 meter, and 12 in the 400 meter race behind champ, Amelia Concannon. Oyster River also swept the 4×100 (50.06) and 4×400 relays (4:11.49).  Acadia Momm-White of Portsmouth out-leaned Ellie Johnston of Exeter in the 100 hurdles to win the champion t-shirt in a time of 16.01 to 16.03. Johnston got her revenge taking down the 300 hurdles with a blazing time of 47.59.

There wasn’t much drama in the distance events.  Raymond High School star Anna Harmon won the 1600 in 5:07.24, Jackie Gaughan of Exeter broke the meet record in the 3200 meters winning in a time of 10:17.05, and Abigail O’Connor of Coe Brown won the 800 meter in 2:24.95.

Sanborn went 1-2 in the high jump with Sophie Merro-Carriero and Hannah Ehlers clearing 5’ 1” and 4’ 11” respectively.  Sydney Ward of Exeter won the Long jump 16’ 5” and finished second in the triple jump while Sarah Morin of Portsmouth won the pole vault clearing 9’ 7”.

The throws were the place to be on the girls side!  Mady Buchalski of St. Thomas won the Javelin throw with a personal best 97’ 11”.  Mady wasn’t done there, besting a loaded shot put field with a toss of 37’ 3.5”. Kathleen Collins of Coe-Brown finished 2nd in the shot with a toss of 37’ 2” and Sarah Williams of Dover finished 3rd with a throw of 36’ 6”.  Collins came back to win the discus just missing her own meet record with a throw of 125’ 7”. Just behind Collins was Megan Sheehan of Sanborn with a toss of 122’ 9”.

The track performer of the meet was Amelia Concannon of Oyster River. Amelia scored 23 points on the track, winning the 400, placing 2nd in the 200, and running on both champion relay teams.  Mady Buchalski of St.Thomas was the field performer of the meet scoring 21 points in the three throws. Kristina Allard scored the second most points in both field events (18 points) and the track (20 points).  Thanks for all who came and competed, spectated, or helped out and best of luck next weekend at the Divisional Championships!
