The JV State Championships were held at Alvirne High School’s beautiful course in Hudson, NH.  This meet is certainly special since it allows those athletes not competing in next week’s Divisional State Championships to experience their own state championship atmosphere to determine which school has the best junior varsity team and/or runner in the state.  There is certainly something special about rewarding hard work on a level playing field.

By placing 3 in the top 5 and 5 in the top 11, Bedford’s enormous program-wide depth proved too much for the rest of the state as they took top honors scoring a paltry 29 points.  Led by Emma Chisholm (2nd 21:05), Avery Houghton (4th, 21:34) and Niamh Russell (5th, 21:35), the Bulldogs were able to put some space in front of perennial powerhouse Pinkerton who placed 2nd with 79 points.  Salem placed 3rd with 133 points.

In addition to Bedford’s JV dominance, Memorial’s Madelyn Peterson placed 1st in 20:56 and Central’s Fiona Doherty placed 3rd in 21:15.  Peterson’s teammate, Paige Graziano placed 6th in 21:37, while Pinkerton’s #1, Meaghan Robidoux finished 7th in 21:40. Rounding out the top 10 were Bedford’s Riley Mularien (21:46), Keene’s Sofia Guardiano (21:52) and Pinketon’s Samantha Brackesy (21:59).

On the boys’ side, Pinkerton continued their dominance of this meet as they won scoring 20 points to Winnacunnet’s 57, Londonderry’s 57, and Keene’s 91 points.  The Long Red Line took 4 of the top 5 spots led by Steven Groulx (1st, 17:12) and Zach Plaza (2nd, 17:17).  Winnacunnet’s Matthew Lambert placed 3rd to break up the red line clocking 17:20 as Charlie Lavoie (17:29) and Sam Steiger (17:36) placed 4th and 5th respectively.  Londonderry’s Christopher Burpeau claimed the 6th spot (17:39) with Winnacunnet’s Nicholas Beal placing 7yh in 17:55.

Rounding out the top 10 were again 2 Pinkerton runners, Nate Letellier (17:56) and Conrad Gende (17:57) along with Keene’s top JV runner Jonathan Hills (10th, 17:58).
