When did you start competing in track and field?
I started competing in 6th grade for Chesterfield School.
What is your favorite track and field event? What are your personal bests?
My favorite track event is hands down the 4 x 800m relay. My best race track race was the 1000m at the D1 Indoor State meet (2:31.46).
Describe your favorite competition memory:
When I was a sophomore, Keene’s 4 x 800m relay team needed a 4th runner to fill out the last spot of the team to defend the D1 title from the year before, and I was able to be that guy. It’s been an honor to be a member of the Keene 4 x 8 team. which has been very strong my entire high school career.
If you could do any event in track and field, which one would it be and why?
I want to try steeplechase at some point because those races look intense.
Describe your favorite workout:
Middle distance will do 600-400-200 repeats, which are intense, but very rewarding when we finish.
How does your coach motivate you?
Coach Goldsmith and Coach Derry have always shown confidence in me and my ability to race well when it counts; to push me and the team to perform at an elite level each season.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
I’d love to go to France to enjoy the culture and language.
What is your go-to pre-meet meal?
I always eat Honey Nut Cheerios for breakfast the day of and spaghetti & meatballs two nights before.
Do you have a favorite prerace song?
I prefer to talk to my teammates before a race, but I’ll listen to “Smooth” by Santana and Rob Thomas on the bus.
What motivates you most to do well?
In the case of relays, the dependence of the three other guys on my individual performance for the relay to be successful. As Coach Goldsmith says, “Same day, same race.” – everyone has to do their individual best when the baton is in their hand.
What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
I would travel the world taking pictures for a living.
What is the best advice or quote ever given to you?
“When the story in the paper is published after the race, you don’t want them to list you as an also ran” – also a Coach Goldsmith quote (after coaching for so long, he has a lot of them)
If you go to college, do you plan to compete in track and field? And where?
I have not decided where I am going to school next year, but I definitely plan on competing in track and field.
What is your favorite thing about Track and Field?
The camaraderie between all the athletes and knowing that everyone is running the same race. Track is not a glorious sport, but the feeling of racing to your potential and seeing other people around you also succeeding is irreplaceable.
What is your favorite track facility?
I really like Dartmouth for indoor, and I like Londonderry’s track for outdoor.
