A rainy morning turned into clear skies and a great night of racing at Exeter High School for the 2019 Seacoast Championships. A big thank you goes out to Speed Sport Timing, meet sponsors, and volunteers that worked that various field events and made the meet run smoothly.
On the boys side the Exeter boys ran away with the meet with a total score of 156 points. They were followed by Winnacunnet with 77 and Spaulding with 77 points. The top track performer was Jack McSweeney of Exeter. The top field performer was Ryan Lane of Spaulding.
Exeter did most of their damage in the sprints, taking places 1-5 in the 100 meter dash. They were led by McSweeney’s 11.27 and Marshal Burns. It was a similar result in the 200 where they occupied the first 4 places led by McSweeney 23.14 and Burns 23.23. Adrian Sutton of Spaulding was dominant in both hurdles races, winning the 110 Highs in 15.38 and destroying the field in the 300 Hurdles with a state best 39.48. All of the sprints were into a slight head wind.
In the 400 meters, Dante Radigonda of Exeter is coming into form holding off a charging Ryan Moyer of Dover to get the win in 50.76 to Moyers 51.47. In the 800 Jake Winslow went through the quarter in 53 seconds and held on for a new meet record in 1:56.64. The 1600 meter run saw a pair of Winnacunnet teammates take control early with Colin Donnelly being the eventual winner in 4:25.39 over Jack Taylor‘s 4:31.09. The 3200 was one of the more exciting races of the day as there were many lead changes up front. It was a 1-2 finish from Winnacunnet again with Noah Taracena getting the win in 10:04.58 over Austin Denis 10:08.34.
The 4×100 relay was won by the Exeter in 44.29. Exeter also won the 4×400 in 3:30.78. Coe-Brown did what Coe Brown does and won the 4×800 in 8:17.94.
In the field events Jake Langevin of Exeter got the win in the high jump with a clearance of 6’1”. Chris Mood of Portsmouth broke the meet record and his school record in the pole vault clearing 13’7”. Andrew Kelly of Portsmouth was the lone boy over 20 feet in the long jump getting the win with a jump of 20’4.25”. Sidonia Labelle-Brown won the triple jump with a distance of 42’4.75”. In the throws, Ryan Whitney of Exeter outdistanced Jonathan Thorn of Coe Brown in the discus with a throw of 133.5” to Thorns 129’5”. It was a similar result in the shot with Whitney winning with a career best 48’3.25” to Thorn’s 46’1.5”. In the Javelin Brogan Bonsaint of Somersworth won with a season best toss of 164’8”
On the girls side, Exeter used its superior depth to earn a three-peat on the team side. Exeter scored 141 points, ahead of D2 powers, Portsmouth 86.66 and Oyster River 71. The top track performer was Lauren Noble of Spaulding. The top field performer was Mady Buchalski of St. Thomas.
Devin McClain of Oyster River and Noble of Spaulding came right down to the wire in the 100 meter dash. McClain got the win in 12.77 to Noble’s 12.78, both very fast times into a headwind. Noble got her revenge in the 200 meter run winning in 26.63 over McClain 27.17. In the 100 hurdles Camilla McAleer of Exeter went under 16 seconds for the first time with a winning time of 15.94. Her teammate Sydney Lavelle won the 300 hurdles in 46.85.
In the 400 Kaylee Quinlan of Winnacunnet was the lone girl under 60 seconds getting the win in 59.42. Lily Doody of Oyster River ran away from the 800 meter field winning the event by more than 5 seconds in 2:21.06. It was Addison Cox of Coe Brown getting the win in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:17.79. Sophie Sullivan of Oyster River got the win in the 3200 with a time of 12:11.03. Portsmouth swept the relays. They won the 4×100 (50.63), 4×400 in (4:04.71), and 4×800 (9:57.73). The 4×400 being a new meet record time.
In the field events Hannah Ehlers of Sanborn and Sophie Merry-Carreiro of Sanborn tied for the win in the high jump at 4’ 11”. Sarah Morin of Portsmouth established a new record in the Pole Vault clearing 10’ 1”. Camille Sweet of Exeter won the long jump with a leap of 16’ 10”. Kaylen Lachapelle of Sanborn continued her dominance in the triple jump with a winning mark of 35’ 1.75”. Mady Buchalski of St. Thomas put on a clinic in the throws winning the shot put and establishing a new record 40’ 7.5”. Jordan Heiser of Exeter won the discus on her home circle with a mark of 102’ 4”. Brooke Clooney of Spaulding had a season best in the javelin with 112’ 3”.
