Describe how you are handling the COVID-19 related situations – remote learning, training in isolation, etc…Div II State Championship 2019-42.jpg

Honestly, it is not too bad. Apart from the increase in chocolate intake, things have been pretty normal academically. Classes seemed to dish out the same amount of work and none of my grades changed. Athletically, I’m much less motivated to do anything, I workout by myself twice a week, but I really miss working out with my friends.

When did you start competing in track and field?

I started  in 6th grade, as a hurdler. I was never very good and did it more to socialize than anything. When I got into high school I immediately wanted to try javelin and became a thrower throughout these 4 years.

What is your favorite track and field event?

My favorite event is easily javelin and it really sucked that I couldn’t get into the 150’ range my senior year because of COVID. There is something special about jav that feels much different then the other throwing events and I’ve always loved it.

What are your personal bests?

I threw my best shot put throw this winter at the D2 divisional meet, 40’ 6”. Unfortunately, my PR for jav is from my junior year and it sits at 145’ 6”.

Describe your favorite competition memory:

My favorite memory would probably be from junior year. I  had gotten done throwing javelin, so my family and I went to watch shot put because my friends were throwing. We get to the circle and the event had already started, and between throws my friend was inhaling a gas station “Honey Bun”. Everyone saw him having his mid-event snack, even our coach and it was hilarious.

Div II State Championship 2019-43.jpgIf you could do any event in track and field, which one would it be and why?

I am 100% not made for pole vault, but if I was, I would try it. Watching pole vault is kind of mesmerizing, people hanging onto a stick to propel them upwards 10-20 feet. I just feel like it is a fun event to compete in.

Describe your favorite workout:

I think my favorite workout would be bench press. It is the best when a group of sweaty guys share one bench together and just lift. We’re always joking around and messing with each other, and we’re all pretty good at it.

How does your coach motivate you?

Honestly, when people try to  motivate me it doesn’t work. I am really good at motivating myself. Also, I don’t really need motivation because competing feels like a privilege. I just love throwing and have never felt unmotivated to do so.

What motivates you most to do well?

When I receive motivation, I don’t compete as well. When I have a clear mind I find that I compete at a much higher level.

If you go to college, do you plan to compete in track and field? And where?

I committed to Umass Lowell and I got in touch with their Track and Field coach, and now I am a walk-on for the team. They’re a D1 school and I’m super excited.

What is your favorite thing about Track and Field?

I think it has always been the social aspect, my friends are always by my side and we are constantly having a good time.

What is your favorite track facility?

It has to be the Phillips Exeter indoor facility. That place is insanely nice and it is always a privilege to compete there.

What is your go-to pre-meet meal?

I usually try not to eat before meets, but sometimes throwers get hungry and I’ll eat something super unhealthy that I should not be eating.

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

I have always said, my dream vacation is to go to New Zealand. It’s kind of strange but all of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies were shot there and it looks beautiful.

Shout-Outs!!!???

I’d like to shout out my friend Josh Borowy, a.k.a. “Fueled by Honey Buns” and my friend, Nick Lucas who has been my workout partner ever since we became good friends.
