This week for the first time in almost 2 years, the Granite State will have a full slate of track and field meets! For almost two years kids, especially sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers and throwers, have been waiting to experience real competition again. Authentic competition while wearing their school name and colors competing with athletes from other schools! Time trials are done, let the real races and competition begin. We have a lot to be thankful for here.
At the same time there has been conflict over the recommendation of masks being worn during competition. We are not going to debate this or generate an editorial. These conflicts can be incredibly distracting, taking focus away from the most important aspect of our sport. As always, this website is here to provide coverage for the NH scholastic track and field athlete accentuating the positives. So we are extremely thankful for the progress we have already seen. Meets are scheduled. In a few days we will start seeing results (coaches send them in to us to post!!). Battlenotes will return and in 7 weeks, we will have a state championship every day beginning on a Tuesday culminating on a Saturday! Think about that. There are so many positives to celebrate.
So, the point. Time to focus on the meets!!! Time to support the high school track and field athlete navigate new recommendations (which may change) and still compete in the best way possible. Who will be the new stars? Who will be the new inspirations? Think about this. Sophomores will get to compete in high school track and field for the first time…finally.
So let’s refocus our energies once again to pulling this off for the kids. We did this in the fall with cross country. We assuredly can do this again for track and field. Especially for the athletes who have been waiting so long. It will simply look a little different. For one season.
Because of COVID protocols, we won’t be able to attend as many meets as we would want to. We need your help!
Coaches! Please send your results to our Community Uploads page. With no invitationals and most meets being hand timed, we have to combine efforts to publish results for all to see. We accept all types of files but prefer .pdf.
Parents! Our Community Uploads page also accepts photos as well!
Now, good luck to all!!! Stay safe, be healthy and compete!!!
