All-Americans!

Congratulations to Coe-Brown’s Cox siblings as they both earned All-American status in the 5000 meters yesterday in Eugene, Oregon at historic Hayward Field.  Addison placed a gutsy 5th in the time of 17:00.59.  Running an intelligent, patient race, Addison settled in behind the eventual 4th place runner from Michigan as they clicked off 81 second laps while the 3 leaders were rolling at 78-79s.  As with any 5000 meters, there are a couple laps during which athletes have to weather the storm.  After rolling through the 1600 in 5:20 and the 3200 split at 10:48, Addison had to stay in contact.  And that she did as she drove  to the finish closing in 77, good enough for 5th and All-American.

Aidan had an entirely different experience as the field was never strung out.  Most of the 20 entrants were bunched almost the entire race.  When this happens, contact between athletes is inevitable, and Aidan certainly received his fair share.  However, the field still pulled through the 3200 in 9:27.  After many moves, Aidan was able to drop a 63 second final lap and threaten the runner-up Micah Wilson from Illinois.  After all the jostling and sprinting, Aidan posted a NH record 14:38.75 good enough for 3rd place.

The day before MV’s Seth Baylus posted a prelim time of 10.99 and gained valuable experience on the big stage.  The same for Concord Christian’s Shane Wang, who despite fouling on his first 2 Triple Jump attempts, placed 15th in the nation with a 46’4.25″ mark.  No doubt both will be back next year capitalizing on the experience from this year.

Look for an interview with the Cox’s specifically about their Nationals experience coming soon.

And with that concludes the 2021 scholastic season.  Have a great summer all!  Here’s to being back to normal next year!
