In the Girls Varsity race, BG’s MaryKate Finn got right to work with host school Nashua North’s Dantia Braccio giving chase.  By the mile though, Finn was solo applying pressure the entire distance to win by over 45 seconds in 18:33.  Although the pack would come close, Braccio would hang on for 2nd in 19:18.  Bedford’s Fiona Lee was 3rd in 19:31 holding off a trio of Concord Crimson Tide.  Led by Molly Nyhan (4th), Alina Pincoske (5th) and freshman Shelly Smith (6th), Concord bounced back in a big way to take home the team title scoring 62 points.  Also scoring for Concord was Abby Goulas (13th) and Quincy Bolduc (40th).  Building off Finn’s win, BG placed a close 2nd with with 71 points.  Also placing in the top 10 individually was South’s Meghan Conway (6th), BG’s Fiona Doherty, North’s Laura White and Pinkerton’s Isabelle Groulx.

The Lady Cardinals had a strong showing placing all 5 scorers in the top 30 with Finn, Doherty, DSC03868.JPGMadeleine Moynihan (16th), Elizabeth White (23rd), and Katie Kraft (27th).  Lee’s Bedford was 3rd with 91 points, Nashua North was 4th with 98 and Pinkerton placed 5th with 103 points.  Division 1 will certainly be a battle this year.

The Boys Varsity race saw another from Bishop Guertin head out to take control of the race.  As written in the preview, BG’s Nate Fondakowski went right to the front with Pinkerton’s Luke Brennan and Concord’s Sam Hilts staying within striking distance.  Hilts and Brennan certainly applied the pressure in a big way as they both caught Fondakowski.  In the end, it was a lean by Fondakowski which made the difference as he won in 15:45.69 to Hilts who crossed in 15:45.88.  Brennan was right behind them in 3rd in 15:54.  Concord then took places 4th and 5th with Zach Hooper and John Murphy respectively.  Londonderry’s Ryan Fortin took 6th in 16:17.  BG’s Sean O’Keefe placed 7th, Pinkerton’s Ethan Charles placed 8th and Londonderry’s Sean Clegg placed 9th.

Usually placing 3 in the top 5 assures a team victory, but Bishop Guertin countered Concord’s top 3 with a flurry of scoring by taking 7th, 10th, 11th and 12th with O’Keefe, Matthew Gardina, Joshua Rivers and Noah Guarrera respectively to win by a mere 5 points scoring 41 to Concord’s 46 points. With the Mack Plaque scheduled for Tuesday, Pinkerton won the first round against Londonderry placing 3rd with 85 points to the Lancers’ 104 point total.  Nashua South was 5th with 171 points.

In the JV races, Londonderry’s Sayde White won the girls race in 22:40.  Concord displayed their depth by placing 2nd with Bedford placing 3rd.   Pinkerton’s Finn Christensen-Kraft won the boys JV race in 18:09, but Bishop Guertin won the team title with a mere 24 points.  Nashua South was second and Londonderry was 3rd.
