On a beautiful and slightly warm day at Alvirne HS, the best of D1 JVs met to settle the JV state championship. Both races began with the team contenders rolling to the front. Beginning with the girls race, Winnacunnet and Bedford controlled the race early as the team champions were not decided until the final mile with the two team separated by only 14 points. Led by sophomore Ava Burness’s second place finish in 21:54, it was the Warriors who took the title with 44 points by placing their scoring 5 within the top 18. Supporting Burness were Brooke Melita (6th, 22:17), Clara Nardone (9th, 22:50), Lauren Muldoon (16th, 23:06), and Skyla Mace (18th, 23:07). Bedford put the pressure on as they placed all five scorers within the top 22 finishers. Led by Sydney Santiago’s 3rd place finish in 22:10, Ela Goucher placed 11th in 22:58, Ella Murthi placed 14th in 23:01, Margaret Adams crossed in 17th in 23:06 and Lauren Pothuru placed 22nd in 23:25.
Individually, it was Sophia Cosgrove (Portsmouth) pulling away from Burness and Santiago to break the proverbial tape in 21:45. Dover’s Jillian Sheedy edged Keene’s Jillian Frink for 4th by 1 second in 22:13. Frink’s teammate, Alexis Hills placed 7th just 4 seconds behind Melita. Pinkerton’s Sydney Sextion placed 8th in 22:41 
and South’s Brielle Ducharme rounded out the top 10 in 22:56.
The boys race played out in a similar fashion as the team contenders, Bishop Guertin, and Nashua South took control from the gun. Matter of fact the front pack looked like a sea for green and purple with a couple red and white Pinkerton jerseys sprinkled within. By midway, as they have seemingly done all season, BG’s Alex Girata and Carson Fischer were at the helm with Pnkerton’s Cooper Michaud giving chase. By this time, team BG had established full control with all five scorers, including Tom O’Neill, Emerson Warren, and William Thompson within the top 10. South was firmly entrenched in second place with Cameron Patronick, Connor Theodore, Michael Rzasa, Rishav Sood, and Alexander Odom leading the charge. Fischer eventually opened up a slight gap over his teammate Girata to win in 17:20 leading BG to the comfortable win. BG would take places 1-2-4-7-9 to total 23 points. South surprised several by placing second totaling 56 points. Pinkerton had 3 in the top 10 to place 3rd with 97 points. The Long Red Line were led by Michaud placing 3rd in 17:34, freshman Noah Daigle 5th, and Ryan Boulanger 8th.
