Although Saturday was certainly the hottest this season has seen, the spirits and competition at the 3rd Annual Bobcat Invitational did not wither. The first event of the day, the 3200, set the tone as Bow’s Maya Brochu and Susanna Zahn broke the Bow school record both crossing the line in 11:10. Their teammate, Cooper Krause won the boys 3200.
With its creative order of events, the hurdles and dash trials were next, followed by the 1600 meters. Oyster River’s Haley Kavanaugh won in 5:23.96 while PCA’s Jonas Teeter won the boys race dropping a 4:43.94. The High Hurdles went as predicted with OR’s Charlotte Cousins winning posting a 15.94. Her teammate Cayden Giordani made it a Bobcat sweep winning the highs on the boys side.
In the 100, Kingswood’s Lauren MacPhee held true to her seed, winning in 13.09 while Ahmed Nada (Portsmouth) broke the tape first in 11.19. The 400 was next as Newmarket’s Alanna Hagen out-leaned the Kingswood duo of Kylie Rapoza and Marcella DeNitto as they all crossed in 62 and change. The boys race was not as close, but was certainly fast as Oyster River’s Ty Dorrow crossed in 50.45 to Portsmouth’s Jake Haley and Michael Schoff who both ran in the 52s.
The 300 Hurdles were next and Kingswood’s MacPhee made it 2 for 2 winning in 51.57 while Portsmouth’s Nate Fletcher blasted his race to break 40 seconds and pop a 39.11. Also winning rather easily, running a time trial of sorts was PCA’s Brianna Malone who led gun to tape in 2:19.93. Oyster River’s Dillon Labonte led a Bobcat sweep in the 800 with a 2:01.08 clocking. The 200 would wrap up the
individual events on the track with Portsmouth’s Lily Jenkins and Conant’s Ethan Vitello took the wins.
The field events provided plenty of drama as well with Newmarket’s Kaitlyn Bussell and Goffstown’s Penelope Annis tied in the High Jump and Conant’s Ben Sawyer and Oyster River’s Daniel Doherty tied on the boys side each clearing 6’1″. Bow’s Sarah Guerette and Oyster River’s Ethan Bessette watch won the Pole Vault.
Displaying Conant’s strength, Sawyer also won the Long jump with teammate Vitello right behind him both eclipsing 20′. Spaulding’s Hope Silveira took the girls side with a leap of 15’7″. Vitello also won the Triple with a monster mark of 43’1.25″. Goffstown’s Jennifer Kulick hopped, skipped and jumped to victory with a 32’2.5″.
While Conant’s strength was the jumps, Goffstown showed up in the throws. Goffstown’s Peyton Strickland won the boys’ Shot with a toss of 44’11.5″ while Bow’s Sierra Mason won the girls side. Strickland also won the Discus with an incredible toss of 162’3.5″. His teammate Shannon O’Brien collected the Discus win throwing 81’9″.
The javelin saw Portsmouth sophomore Margaret Montplaisir win with a toss of 110’0″ while Kingswood’s Ethan Arnold won on the boys side with a toss of 140’9″.
As is the tradition the Bobcat ended with the unique but ever growing in popularity, mixed 4×400 relay. We would love to see more of this in the future! What a great way to celebrate a total program!
