Each week we will be highlighting one male and female athlete who stood out with their cumulative performances of the week and/or had one jaw-dropping pop of a mark.
This week, on the boys’ side, Coe-Brown’s Jamie Lano has earned the honor! In his first individual event ever on an indoor track, Lano was the surprise winner in the 1000 meters in 2:37.04. While this is more than a solid time at UNH’s 160 meter track, without wearing spikes, it was not how fast he ran, but who he beat. The race on paper was the event of the day on paper as Londonderry’s Sean Clegg the middle distance stud and distance star Coe-Brown’s Aidan Cox looked to face off. Add in Hanover’s Lucien Gleiser and Coe-Brown’s Gavin Demas, and Lano, because of his inexperience, was not considered a favorite. Cox took the race out with Clegg and Lano in tow. Clegg made a strong move on the 3rd lap which Cox held off. On the next straightaway, Lano pounced on both making the definitive move and shocking the building! This has to be one of the most impressive debuts in recent memory. So, congrats to Jamie Lano, this week’s HOKA Male Athlete of the Week!
