Weekend Preview: 52nd Annual Dartmouth Relays, Northeast, East Coast

12 28 2022 meet-016.JPGIn addition to the awesome league meets taking place, this weekend marks the first weekend with several invitationals occurring across New England.  While we will focus on NH’s Dartmouth Relays, Boston’s Northeast Invitational and Rhode Island’s East Coast Invitational also has teams from NH heading their way.  We will provide links to previews and East Coast’s livestream.

Some random thoughts first though:

  • As intended expect the remainder of the season to be exciting!  mid-January to the state meet is where athletes and teams really begin to drop big performances!
  • While the weather has not been great for other outdoor winter sports, the mild and dry pattern we are currently experiencing may yield even better results as most teams have full access of their outdoor tracks.
  • Thank you to everyone who has purchased merch (long sleeves, crewnecks) in support of the site.  This is our avenue to fundraise for the season to ensure we can livestream, snap pics, interview, and truly cover the great student-athletes of NH.  New merch this weekend includes short sleeves and winter hats!  They will be sold at Plymouth.
  • We are livestreaming at Plymouth Saturday as well!!!

12 28 2022 meet-100Dartmouth Relays

Although it will look much different to what we are accustomed to, Dartmouth Relays returns this coming weekend, Friday-Saturday.  This 52nd edition has a handful of events each day opting to take less athletes and have less events.  The positive side of this is we are in for a treat in a consolidated amount of time. Let’s take a look at the entries and ponder what to watch for!

Only 7 High School events will be contested including the Shot Put, High Jump, Mile, Distance Medley Relay, Weight Throw, 2 Mile and 4×400 Relay.  Top NH seed in the girls shot is 4th with Helena Jackson from Manchester West.  On the boys side, Lebanon’s Tanner Ames ranks 3rd.  Ames is also ranked 2nd in the Weight Throw, behind valley rival James Chafouleas from Hanover.  Chafouleas’s teammate Ian Solberg is the top seed in the High Jump with a 6’7″ while Leb’s Isabella Hastings is top seed on the girls side.01 07 2023 UNH Meet-469

The mile will kick things off on the track Friday.  Scarlet Stimson (Essex, VT) is the top seed with a 5:12, but Coe-Brown’s Sheldyn Fisher checks in as the #2 seed and Exeter’s Meadow Gregory is the #5 seed.  On the guys’ side, Coe-Brown’s Aidan Cox is the top seed with Bedford’s Jacob Redman 2nd.  Leb’s Birhanu Harriman is ranked 6th with CBNA’s Tyler Tkaczyk and Jamie Lano ranked 8th and 9th.  Windham’s Logan Carter checks in at #10 with Exeter’s Matthew Allen and Hanover’s Lucien Gleiser 12th and 13th respectively.  Yes, the Mile is a healthy event this year.

With the newly announced condensed schedule, doubling back to the Distance Medley Relay will have a short rest.  On the girls side of things, 6 teams will be competing with three NH teams, Conant (#2), Lebanon (#3) and Bedford (#5).  The boys side has 10 teams with Coe-Brown seeded #1, Lebanon seeded #4, Bedford #5, and Hanover #9.

01 07 2023 UNH Meet-376Saturday’s event on the track will be the 2 Mile Run.  Bishop Guertin’s Anna Fondakowski is NH’s top seed at #5 with Hastings seeded 6th.  On the boys side, Harriman is the top seed with BG’s Matthew Giardina, Leb’s Thomas Wolfe, and BG’s Carson Fischer seeded 3rd-5th.  The 4×400 will also be contested with NH girls teams Kearsarge, Hanover, and Leb ranked 1st through 3rd while the boys see Hanover, Bishop Brady and Leb ranked 2nd-4th.
