The cold night at the Clipper Relays didn’t prevent blistering times and meet record performances. The two things most athletes look forward to in this meet. The historical T-shirts that are awarded to the participants of the winning teams and the hype around the “field event” relay at the end of the meet, which produced the same energy as the state championships will be later this month.
Girls Relay Results
STATE RECORD ALERT! The race of the day has to go to the girls 4×100 which saw the Nashua South team of Ortiz, Braswell, Cruz, and Ross break not
only the meet record but also the state record with a blistering 48.40. They were pushed to the record by runner-up Pinkerton who also broke the meet record with a sub-49 performance of 48.98. Those same 4 girls from each squad battled back in the 4×200 which produced another meet record for Nashua South in a time of 1:45.26 ahead of runner-up Pinkerton.
The 4×800 is typically an event loaded with the school’s best teams as they look to hit a qualifying mark for the championship meets. The Bedford girls went to the front and never looked back scooping up a NH, season-best time of 9:54.32 ahead of runner-up Exeter. In the 4×400 Nashua North put up a state-best 4:08.91 to clip Exeter’s 4:10.08.
In non-traditional relays on the track, it was Nashua North getting the win in the shuttle hurdles, Winnacunnet cruising to victory in the DMR, Bedford in the DMR Steeple.
The wet and windy conditions did impact the field event performances, but there was still the opportunity to compete against some of the best competition across the state and see 
where you stack up. In the Pole Vault, Lauren Fitzgerald of Londonderry cleared 9’6” to lead the Londonderry trio to victory. First-year track athlete Hannah Drew of Spaulding had a season-best leap of 5’2” in the high jump as the top mark, but it was Winnacunnet getting the team victory with all three athletes clearing 4’8”. Anika Scott went 17’4” in the long jump, more than a foot ahead of the next best competitor, leading the Bedford girls to a dominant victory in the long jump relay. Alexis Best had the “best” performance in the triple jump with a 37’2” jump into a headwind. She led the Merrimack girls to the win in that event.
Briana Danis led the field in the shot put with a 34’10.5” throw and also led her team to victory. It was the same result in the discus with Danis having the top throw of 134’4” and Pinkerton taking home the victory. In the Javelin in very wet conditions, Madelyn Novak of Nashua North 100’1” had the longest throw of the day but it was Exeter taking home the team win.
Team wise, Bedford took home the 55th Clipper Relays team win with 65 points to Pinkerton’s 60 points.
Boys Clipper Relays Results
Coe-Brown kicked the boys side of things off in record breaking fashion as their 7:54 and change in the 4×800 broke the meet record by 10+ seconds. Lead
off leg Jamie Lano did not waste any time getting out and grabbing a big lead. This relegated Black Bears to a time trial effort as Aidan Cox, Tyler Tkaczyk and Gavin Demas ran solo the remainder of the way. Bedford placed an impressive 2nd with a 8:10 and change mark.
Coe-Brown kept winning early on with a victory in the Distance Medley Relay as well in 11:05.5. Milford was 2nd in 11:12.
Bedford began flexing its D1 muscle with a win in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay in 1:09.02 to Winnacunnet’s 1:10.83. Bedford would then place 2nd in the 4×100 in a blistering 43.68. The top team in the state would remain that way as Pinkerton posted yet another time in the 43s with a 43.42 for the victory there. The meet record is 43.30.
Like the South girls, the Pinkerton boys swept both sprint relays winning the 4×200 over upstart D3 Bishop Brady 1:32.56 to 1:32.88. Oyster River would come for essentially 1 event and they did not waste the opportunity as they clocked a school record 3:30.04 with Ty Dorow anchoring in 49 and change. Bedford once again was 2nd in 3:32.77.
Shifting to the field event relays, Oyster River also won the High Jump led by Daniel Doherty and Cameron Faulkner who cleared 6’2″ and 6’0″ respectively. Host school Portsmouth won the Pole Vault relay led by Jason Yeaton who cleared 11’0″. Coe-Brown’s Zach Blades won the event clearing 11’6″.
Manchester Memorial won the Long Jump Relay led by Alexis Rivera’s 19’2.25″. Exeter’s Michael Dettore had the best mark on the day with a 20’3.25″. Dettore also led the Exeter Triple Jump Relay to the team win with a jump of 40’3.5″. North’s Jack Sullivan had the best mark in this one with 41’6″.
Sullivan’s North teammates won the Shot Put Relay led by Toby Brown’s 55’4″ bomb. He wasn’t the only one over 50′, as his teammate Darius Smith also launched the shot 51’4″. Coe-Brown won the Discus led by Zach Bistany’s 137’5″. Pinkerton won the Javelin led by Joseph Packowski’s 148’2″ mark. Portsmouth’s Jason Yeaton won the event individually with a 155’10” toss.
In a tight team battle not decided until the final 2 events, Bedford won with 59.40 points to Coe-Brown 55 points.
