2023 Dover Team Blog #6

By Caitlin Cole – @DHSCCTF

Here we are again… Championship season! Today (Friday, 10/20) is the Division I JV State Championship, hosted at Alvirne. DHSSCTF is hoping to make a big appearance this year. Boys have a young team looking to gain experience, and two Saturdays ago girls came in 4th at Battle of the Border and were the second Division 1 team behind the intense Bedford squad. Anything could happen, and I’m excited to see it all unfold.
The last two weeks have just been some solid and consistent training. Last week we had some killer mile repeats around campus and this week we had some tune-up 200s. Of course, with some solid aerobic miles in there too. Been a fun period of not racing, honestly, but we’re ready to go tomorrow.
I did some digging into last year’s state meet where Dover girls came in 5th. We had a low stick in then-

senior Jill Sheedy (last name sound familiar?) and were neck-and-neck with Keene, who ultimately beat us by 4 points with a smaller spread. However, when you look at the results from this year’s Battle of the Border, we could have two low sticks in our Lilys, who will likely be followed closely by Janelle and Isabella. Yes, Battle of the Border was missing teams from Division I, but there were also teams from other divisions (and other states!) that affected scoring. A few DI teams also placed freshmen in the Frosh race at BoB, so you have to take that into account as well. Really, we could go on and on hypothesizing about this.

I asked one of my teammates if she wanted to say something for this blog. Her response was, “No I’m bad at writing.” So there you have it, folks. But in all honesty, I like her response, because nothing that we say or do today will change what happens tomorrow. We’ve worked all summer for it, so I think we just have to enjoy the ride (easier said than done when you’re racing a 5k). Can’t wait to see what happens today…
