Haven’t had your fill of Cross Country yet??? There are several postseason options to choose from and Nike Cross Northeast Regionals has something for everyone.
Whether you are a team with national qualifying aspirations or just want another incredible team experience while rubbing elbows with some of the best XC athletes in country, NXR Northeast has something for everyone. With Olympians featured every year from Olympic Champ Matt Centrowitz in 2018 to Jordan Hasay in 2017 to Colleen Quigley in 2019, Nike is well represented each year.
This is the team qualifier for Nike Cross Nationals held in Portland, Oregon yearly, which Souhegan girls earned in 2016 following the Coe-Brown girls’ trips in 2013 and 2014, as well as Hanover’s trip in 2007. Individuals can also qualify as Julia Robitaille accomplished in 2017,Caroline Fischer did in 2016, Elisabeth Danis in 2015, Maegan Doody in 2014 and Gilford’s Patrick Gandini and Coe-Brown’s Aidan Cox in 2022. Cox was also NXR Regional Northeast Champ in 2021.
Think you or your team might be a year away from qualifying or simply want the experience? Will it pay off?? NXR offers both Championship and Open races for both teams and individuals. Prior to qualifying in 2013, Coe-Brown placed 5th in 2012. Experience can be vital! To cap it off, they have a youth race to end the day.
Few more notes:
- Teams/Individuals do not have to qualify to compete at the Regionals. Anyone can enter. Select the race that is appropriate for you (Championship or Open).
- A handful of Nike Sponsored professional athletes attend. The past years have included Matt Centrowitz, Mary Cain, Emily Enfield, Andrew Wheating and Jordan Hasay.
- New York Regional is also held here on the same day, so many of the nation’s best runners compete here!
- How does NH measure up against NJ, PA, and New England???
A reward for the season’s hard work, the experience to run against the best in the Northeast! A team bonding experience? NXR still offers both Championship and Open races for both teams and individuals. To cap it off, they have a USATF youth race to end the day.

Footlocker Returns & Northeast Regional Moves to Boston!
Date: November 25, 2023
Site: Franklin Park, Boston, MA
Footlocker Northeast Website – general information, registration
Known as Champs Nationals the last couple years, what was originally named Kinney Nationals and then for many years known as Footlocker Nationals is back for another year. The original nationals, xc runners at 4 regions across the country attempt to finish in the top 10 at their respective regional races to qualify for Footlocker Nationals held in San Diego, California where they are a part of a select 40 athlete field. Past NH Footlocker National Champions include names like Cathy Shiro and Matt Downin.
New this year is the surprising move of the Northeast Regional from the oldest and most historical XC course in the nation, Van Cortlandt Park in NYC up to another incredibly historic XC course, Franklin Park in Boston!! Footlocker NE has been held at Van Cortlandt every year since the regional’s inception in 1979. So for the first time, a Northeast Regional does not require an overnight stay for the individual wanting to experience regional competition.

Tim,
Hanover’s Heidi Caldwell 2008 Aaron Watanabe 2008 and 2009 made it as individuals. Heidi and the girls’ team placed 4th at the Nike Cross Nationals in 2007.
