This week the NH Meet of Champions, as always, settled many an argument as well as provided fantastic performances, but a couple stand above the rest and are our HOKA Athletes of the Week. Congratulations to both Haley Kavanagh of Oyster River and Jake Pitre of Sanborn! Haley Kavanagh likes the Meet of Champions. Matter of fact, she won the HOKA AoW last year for her performance there as well. Ranked 9th on the merge from Divisionals, her race on Saturday was a microcosmic example of her season as she hung back early, moved up steadily, and finished 2nd with authority in 17:56, almost a minute faster than last year. Perhaps her crescendo will be this weekend’s New England Championships! She helped Oyster River continue a dream year with capturing the 2023 MOC Title.
Sanborn’s Jake Pitre was ranked 12th off the Divisional Merges coming into the MOCs this past weekend. Quietly putting together a break through season, Pitre once again stuck his nose in the front pack right from the outset. This time he hung tough the entire race to place a surprising 5th place in 15:27. By comparison, last year Pitre placed 84th in 18 minutes and change. Talk about a lesson to the younger runners of NH. According to his coach, Pitre did his summer homework, and now look at him. Only a junior, next year will be quite interesting now that Pitre has that taste of success.
Congratulations to both Haley and Jake, this week’s HOKA Athletes of the Week!
