US Mountain Running Team Looking for U18 Runners!

By Corey Dowe, US Mountain Racing Team

If you have ever had dreams of representing Team USA on the national stage, love running up mountains, or are stronger than most on our tougher XC courses here in New Hampshire, read on. Each year, the USATF chooses a handful of youth athletes from across the country to represent Team USA internationally. This year, chosen athletes will be competing in Spain in June, 2024!

Our state has some tough rugged mountains and technical trails that carry over into some of the XC courses we compete on, our cross country divisional state meet goes up a ski mountain, and New Englanders are tough in general! Check out this article to learn more about the details and how to apply to be considered for the 2024 International U18 Mountain Running Cup Team.

Want to Apply? Suggestions For Your Resume

  • Highlight top times/performances at some of the tougher New England Courses and bigger invitationals (Manchester Invite, Black Bear Invite, Divisionals, Meet of Champions, New Englands, NXN, Footlocker and other postseason opportunities)
  • Highlight best times for track, road, and/or Nordic distances/events that you compete in
  • If you train on trails and/or hills often, mention it!
  • List any running camps/programs that you have been a part of

Set Goals, Dream Big

Even if you don’t make the team this year, this is a cool goal to set for yourself in upcoming years. New Hampshire has held several of the USATF Mountain Championships in recent years, with many of the races being a part of the USATF-NE Mountain Running Circuit. Many of these races now have discounts for youth athletes and are a great, fun way to train over the summer!

Note: Corey is a 2011 Alum of Coe-Brown.  She is a former state champion who pursued running at Cornell.  There she competed at the NCAA XC Championships.  Upon graduating from Cornell, she returned to her roots, NH, where she continued her passion for running by competing for Runners Alley in many road, mountain, trail and XC races.  She also became a fixture for NHCC and NHTF as our social media and favorite interviewer!
