What to Watch For! 2024 Sanborn Invite!

Sanborn Invitational Meet Hub

2024 marks the third year Sanborn is hosting the Invitational!  That’s right, Londonderry passed it to Merrimack Valley, which passed it on to Sanborn after 20 years of hosting the largest invitational in the state.  The meet has always been a success with a variety of wrinkles added each year to keep interest high!

Not a team scored meet, traditionally this invitational is the perfect start to the new season for Division 2 and 3 schools; a great way to kick off vacation week! And of course, we will be there to livestream, snap pics, interview! Lets see who is in the entries!

Sprints & Hurdles

In the 100 and 200, the current NH Sprint Queen, Kennett’s Aida Wheat is the top seed by a comfortable margin in both events by more than a half a second in the 100 and more than a second in the 200. The boys side sees a bit more parity with names like Bishop Brady’s Joshua Gentchos, PCA’s Tim Kelm, Trinity’s Nehemiah Oyaronbi, Oyster River’s Talon Ouellette and Bishop Brady’s Alan Yap. If indoors is any indicator, this will be a fun day.

Oyster River’s Erin Carty and Newport’s Maddox Lovely will battle in the 100m High Hurdles while Conant’s Kaden Colby and Oyster River teammates Micah Bessette and Cayden Giordani are the top 3 seeds in the 110m High Hurdles. Carty will return as the heavy favorite in the 300m Intermediates while Sanborn’s Ben Cardoso and Merrimack Valley’s Mychal Reynolds will duke it out on the boys’ side.

Newmarket’s Alanna Hagen is the top seed in the 400 meters by more than 2 seconds. Goffstown’s Jayden Hastings is top seed on the boys’ side with a 52.24 seed time. He will have company as host school Sanborn’s Shane McKeen is seeded at 52.85.

Middle Distance & Distance

Invitationals over the next 2 weeks, Sanborn and Black Bear, feature the 3200 meters as its opening distance event. Oyster River’s Haley Kavanagh is the top seed for the girls. The favorite on the boys side should be Kearsarge’s Daniel Dalbec.

The 1600 sees Oyster River’s Mackenzie Cook as the heavy favorite, but Hopkinton’s Maddy Lane is also entered. Coming off a strong XC season, this entry is certainly interesting. PCA’s Jonas Teeter is the favorite on the boys’ side, but look for Coe-Brown’s Sanjith Nomula and Luc Kerouac to provide the stiffest challenge.

Hagen is also the top seed in the 800 meters, but may face a real challenge from Goffstown’s Kara Tschida as Hagen will be doubling back from the 400. Interesting entry in this one is Kennett’s Piper Lopashanski, one of the best quarter-milers in the state. Top seeds on the boys’ side include PCA’s Ivan Sturgis and Hopkinton’s Roman Finlayson. Interesting entry certainly has to be MV’s Reynolds as he is entered in the 300 Hurdles the event before.

Jumps

Somersworth’s Sya McKay and Goffstown’s Penelope Annis are the top 2 seeds in the Girls High Jump seeded at 5’3″ and 5’2″ respectively. Spaulding’s Paul Butler has to be the favorite for the Boys High Jump with a 6’5″ seed. Coe-Brown’s Shannon Ross and Alex Connor own the top seeds in the Pole Vault at 9’0″ and 10’6″.

With a 17’2.75″ seed, West’s Eshaya Lauder is tops in the Long Jump. Look for Oyster River’s Avery Baumgardt to give her a challenge. Spauldings Cris Santana comes in with a 21’8″ mark, but do not count out John Stark’s Rio Calle and Trinity’s Rere Edokpolo. In the Triple Jump, Hopkinton’s Grace Hall is the favorite count on McKay to also do well here. Somersworth’s Tayshawn Sheppard is the top seed in the Triple Jump with MV’s Aiden Paquette also looking to perform well.

Throws

Look for Kearsarge’s Amelia Lefebvre and Coe-Brown’s Isabelle Grenier to battle in the girls Shot Put as will CBNA’s Elias Warner, John Stark’s Joel Douzanis and Newport’s Kyle Ashley will on the boys side.

Grenier is the top seed in the Discus with a comfortable cushion of close to 10 feet. It looks as if Ashley and Warner will also face-off here as well on the boys side.

In the girls javelin, Coe-Brown owns the top 3 seeds with Emma Zeblisky, Annika Gunderson, and Jacqueline Heilshorn. Look for Newport’s Torrence Williams to potentially crash the party. Newport’s Ashley is the comfortable favorite in the boys javelin.
