2024 USTFCCCA High School Track & Field High School Coaches of the Year

Congrats to Hanover’s Steve McConnell as he has been named NH’s Boys Track and Field Coach of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for 2024.  McConnell led Hanover to the D2 State Championship accumulating 93 points dethroning a CBNA team which had been D2 Champs since 2019. With names like Lucian Gleiser, James Chafouleas, Aiden Powell, Aidan Bradley leading the team, Hanover was able to score points in every event group, including winning 2 of the 3 relays, combining for a full team win. To his credit, McConnell was masterful with placing athletes in events where they can maximize their individual as well as collective team potential.

Congrats also to Bedford’s Noah Pion as he was named the girls NH Coach of the Year…again!   Unlike last year, on paper prior to the D1 Championships, Bedford was the heavy favorites and they delivered. Once again, Pion was an architect with his athlete placement to maximize points.  Capitalizing on last year’s experience, Bedford soared to new heights. With her individual wins and state records, Anika Scott certainly garnered the most attention. However, it takes a team to win the team title, and collectively Bedford won 9 of 18 events with names like Fiona Lee, Kelseigh O’Neil, Carolyn Kemp, and Ruby Kaupp capturing titles both on the track and in the field.

Congrats to both coaches on a job well done!
