Phillips Exeter Academy Boys Varsity Cross Country won the New England Prep School New England D1 Championship this past Saturday for the 5th year in a row. This was also Exeter’s tenth title in the past 13 seasons. The Exeter boys scored five New Hampshire runners on the day. Junior Owen Welch of Exeter (7th, 16:09), freshman Bocelli Howland-Vlahakis of Gilmanton (9th, 16:21), post-graduate Lucien Gleiser of Hanover (13th, 16:34), senior Pearce Covert of Dover (16th, 16:36), and junior Nathi Lomax of Hampton (24th, 16:58) all put forth terrific races for the Big Red.
Phillips Academy Andover finished 2nd overall by a mere six points. Also of note was Andover senior Tamrat Gavenas, who finished first overall on the day in a course record time of 15:01. Gavenas is currently ranked 10th in the nation. Both teams are slated to run at NXR Northeast. Exeter runner James Travis of Barrington, NH (74th, 18:13) was the 3rd fastest freshman on the day, just ahead of fellow PEA teammate Asher Bravo (77th, 18:16) who was the 4th fastest freshman.
The meet was hosted by The Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT.
