The state championship portion of the 2019 cross country season got off to a rousing start as the Division 2/3 JV State Championships were held at Coe-Brown Northwood Academy yesterday.  Congratulations to Coe-Brown as they pulled off the sweep!  Last year Oyster River pulled off the same sweep, with both races being close contests.  This year the Bears crowded the top five with both the girls and the boys.

Coe-Brown’s Mary Joy won the race in 21:47, while her teammates more than supported her taking the next 3 of 4 positions with Miranda Compton (2nd 22:12), Natalie Sicard (4th, 22:14), and Cadence Howard (5th, 22:23).  Hanover’s Lauren Eiler split Compton and Sicard to place 3rd in 22:13.

Oyster River more than made the girls race competitive with 6 girls within 34 seconds of each other placing 6 runners between 6th and 15th place.  Leading the way for the Bobcats was Carly Anderson (6th, 22:26).  Hopkinton’s Clara Locke was 7th in 22:30.  Bobcats Addie Berglund and Emma Hall took 8th and 9th in 22:36 and 22:38.  Souhegan’s Erin Taylor placed 10th in 22:41 only to be trailed by another Bobcat, Ella Stasko (11th 22:46).   Souhegan’s Emma Jarnigan was 12th in 22:49 while Portsmouth’s Charlie Welsh placed 13th in 22:49.  Rounding out the top 15 medal winners were Souhegan’s Molly Jennings om 22:55 and Oyster River’s Abby Dean in 22:58.

Coe-Brown’s boys team took 6 of the top 7 places as Isaac Wells and Tyler Rose went 1-2 in 18:05 and 18:08.  It was Oyster River’s Henry Hagan who broke up the shutout placing 3rd in 18:19.  The Bears then took places 4th through 7th with Gavin Demas (18:21), Cody Tanguay (18:29), Shane Cameron (18:30), and Lars Hogne (18:32) bringing the Bears total to a paltry 18 points.

Sanborn’s Daymien Bonet was 8th in 18:39 with Hanover’s Spencer May 9th in 18:46 edging Coe-Brown’s Tyler Tkaczyk (18:47).  Oyster River’s Ethen Bessette ran 18:50 to take 11th place over Con-Val’s Ian Post (18:51).  Rounding out the top 15 were Oyster River’s Keane Swiesz (18:59), Hanover’s Luke Holmes (19:05) and Windham’s Jack Conrad (19:09).  Oyster River placed 2nd with 74 points.
