The 17th Annual Battle of the Border Invitational between Massachusetts and New Hampshire will be held this Saturday, October 9, 2021. This year’s meet, at Alvirne High School in Hudson, New Hampshire, is looking like it will be hard fought, matching some strong teams and individual runners from both states. This meet is a traditional invitational, but the superior state is determined by placement of the top 5 teams from their respective states. NH has won the last four years!! Let’s Go!!
Representing New Hampshire will be Alvirne, Bishop Guertin, Campbell, Coe-Brown (boys only), Conant, Londonderry, Central, Memorial, Merrimack, Milford, South, Pelham, Pinkerton, Salem, Sanborn, Spaulding, Trinity, Windham, Winnacunnet.
Massachusetts will be represented by Greater Lowell Tech, Haverhill, Marshfield, Needham, North Andover, and Tyngsborough.
On the girl’s side, the top runners from Massachusetts have to be from MA #1 Marshfield’s Ava LoVuolo and Eleanor Anglese-Whitnell. Challenging these 2 should be Londonderry’s Grace McDonough, Winnacunnet’s Miley Bletzer, Salem’s Lily Thomas and Pinkerton teammates Isabelle Groulx and Contessa Silva.
Team-wise, the aforementioned Marshfield, currently ranked #1 in the Bay State would have to be the favorites in this one. Also from Massachusetts look for their 8th ranked school from Needham as well as the D3 #8 ranked Tyngsborough. NH boasts 2 teams currently in the NHCC’s top 10 rankings with #7 Pinkerton and #8 Winnacunnet. Both teams boast strong packs, with Pinkerton being consistent all year and Winnacunnet breaking through at Thetford this past weekend.
On the boys’ side, although CBNA’s Aidan Cox is not participating, there will be plenty of competition as the field is still loaded. Beginning with the Granite State, looks for Bishop Guertin’s Nate Fondakowski to set the strong early pace. He will certainly be flanked by Pinkerton’s Luke Brennan, Windham’s Michael Killian, and Sanborn’s Jared Khalil. In the secondary pack with eyes on breakthroughs, look for CBNA’s top three of Lars Hogne, Tyler Tkaczyk and Jamie Lano as well as Londonderry’s Ryan Fortin, Pinkerton’s Ethan Charles and Sanborn’s Tyson Khalil. Then we sprinkle in our friends from the Bay State with Marshfield’s Drew Pesko and Needham’s Kyler McNatt. Expect both Pesko and McNatt to make their presence felt in the front pack.
NH sends 4 ranked teams led by #1 Bishop Guertin which continues to roll through the season regardless of the type of course they are running on. Expect them to look real strong at Alvirne. NH#6 Coe-Brown, NH#8 Windham and NH#9 Londonderry all will be there looking to move up the rankings with strong performances. Massachusetts counters with strong teams from Tyngsborough and Marshfield.
NHCC will be there snapping pics, recording races, posting on Instagram live! We will also be selling NHCC tees with proceeds going to support the website! Thanks to all for the support!
Good luck to all! Especially those from the 603! Let’s Go!
