Week of 4/10
Boys
Keene’s Chris Stevens is having another torrid start to a season as he has posted NH’s top marks in the 100 (10.77) and 200 (22.66). D3’s Joshua Gentchos joins Stevens in the 22’s in the 200 with a 22.73.
Bedford’s Jacob Redman popped off this past weekend rolling to a 1:57.73 800 at the Pelham Invitational. His teammate Christopher Chong has the top hurdle times in D1 with a 15.11 in the Highs and a 40.31 in the Intermediates.
Conant’s Ben Sawyer has a long jump of 21’6″ to his name with D1’s North’s Jack Sullivan at 21’0.75″. Also in the jumps Pembroke’s Gavin Currier hopped, skipped, and jumped to 41’3″ He is only eclipsed in the state by D3’s Garrett Emery (Woodsville) who posted a 41’11”. Of note at that same meet in Belmont, Inter-Lakes freshman David Walker jumped 41’1″.
Perhaps the most eye popping is Newport’s Kyle Ashley’s javelin mark of 175’0″. Coe-Brown’s Zachary Bistany tossed the Discus 146’4″ this past weekend. His teammates have posted the top 4×400 Relay (Jamie Lano, Ben Robinson, Matthew Corriveau, and Gavin Demas) in the state with a 3:29.08 earlier in the week.
Girls
North’s Jhanelle Thomas unleashed a 12.31 in the hundred meters at a meet in Keene earlier in the week. She backed that up with a 25.73 200 at the Saber Invite this past weekend after winning the High Hurdles in 15.85 (#2 in D1).. She is part of a D1 sprint competition which Exeter Coach Nate Leveille has described as possibly the best/deepest in NH history. Early results lend credence to Leveille’s claim as Merrimack’s Alexis Best (12.40), South’s Soraya Ross (12.41/26.06) and Iyana Braswell(12.61/27.04), Portsmouth’s Lily Jenkins (100-12.76)and Central’s Harriet Barber (25.48/58.66) have all dropped some great early season marks.
Not to be outdone in D2, Coe-Brown’s Anushka Chavda had herself a day at the Pelham Invitational winning both the 100 (12.67/D2 #1) and 200 (26.55/D2#2) while placing 2nd in the Triple Jump garnering meet MVP honors.
Bedford’s Annika Scott is off to a great start as she won the Hurdles this past weekend at the Pelham Invite in 15.26 and also claimed the Long Jump with a leap of 17’9.25″. Both of these marks are tops in D1. Pinkerton’s Briana Danis started her spring campaign with 124′ 10″ Discus toss while and Best is the best with a 35′ 5.25″ Triple.
Belmont swept their own meet this past Friday comprised of 9 teams. In that their young crew of female sprinters dominated the 100 and 200. maybe just as impressive, the meet was completed in 2 hours exactly!
