This past weekend’s Manchester Invitational was certainly memorable! Congratulations to Oyster River’s Mackenzie Cook and PEA’s Byron Grevious, this week’s HOKA Athletes of the Week. Mackenzie Cook led her team to the narrow victory in the small school division by placing 3rd with a time of 18:47. As has become her style, Cook ran steady and strong the entire race. Oyster River won by 10 points over then #1 team Hanover and Cook’s time stood as the second fastest for NH on the day. Because of this, Oyster River has taken over NH’s top ranking.
While Phillips Exeter attracts student athletes from all over the world, it is obviously located in NH, they graciously offer their indoor track, and compete, during the Winter Track League and happen to be coached by a Granite Stater! So for this week we gladly give the HOKA Athlete of the Week honor to the #2 ranked harrier in the country, Byron Grevious. Grevious not only won the large school race, he covered Derryfield Park faster than any high schooler ever, 15:03! The previous mark was 15:08 at New Englands in 2013 by Ridgefield, CT’s Trevor Hopper. Ironically, Grevious is from CT! In the process he led his team to the team title quite comfortably. Look for not only Grevious but also his team at upcoming Black Bear but also help us cheer them on at Nike Cross Regionals in November!
