The meet began with the girls 4×800 meter relay. In the first heat Winnacunnet girls team threw down an impressive 10:35.70 to end up 3rd overall, once all the times were compiled. Next in the fast heat, Pinkerton did have an early lead for the first couple legs. Exeter was right on their heels and then overtook them coming into the third handoff and didn’t look back, posting a season-tying best of 10:06, followed by Pinkerton at 10:19.
In the boys 4×800, Winnacunnet also won the first heat, and once compiled ended up 7th overall. In the second heat, it was a Bedford v. Pinkerton battle, coming right down not only to the anchor legs but the last 160 meters! Pinkerton’s anchor finished with a very impressive kick and got his team the W with a collective 8:38, followed by Bedford at 8:40.
The Hurdles and 55-meter Dash were both 3-person compiled times (as opposed to shuttle relays). In the Dash, Portsmouth girls had the best compiled times, with 3 girls running sub-8, totaling 22.98. On the boys’ side, it was Pinkerton with three under 7 seconds, posting a 20.32.
The girls’ Hurdles were won by Portsmouth with a combined 29.97, with Dover in second at 30.46. On the boys’ side, the winner was Bedford at 24.96, followed closely by Winnacunnet at 25.01.
We then made our way to the 4xlap! Nashua North in the 8th (of 9) heat with the upset, posting a 1:26.86. On the boys side we saw Pinkerton with an impressive wire-to-wire run of 1:15.04, Nashua South giving the Astros great chase until the handoff between legs 3 and 4 which was just a little off, but the Panthers still posted a 1:15 too. That was an exhilarating race and will be fun for all of us to watch again when they next match up!
Last for the day was the 4×400, which is fun at UNH, flip-flopping with handoffs on both the backstretch and homestretch. The girl’s winner went to Nashua North, having a terrific day not only capturing the 4xlap, but also this relay too. On the boys side Bedford was out to an early lead after leg one, but by the time legs 3 were handing off to 4 it was all even between the Bulldogs and Astros. By the time the dust settled in the dungeon, Bedford was able to cross the line with a 3:40.69, followed closely by Pinkerton in 3:42.14.
Long jump was the only field event at the Winter League Relays. Alexis Best of Merrimack won with a 17’02” jump, and on the boys’ side Oliver Duffy of Winnacunnet won with a jump of 20’ 4”.

Also impressive was Mascenic girls running 10:50 out of the slow heat in the 4×8 out of the slow heat. An oversight by their coach it seems!
