What a New England Championships yesterday by the Granite State at UNH!  Congrats to all who qualified and participated yesterday at the 77th edition of the only regional championship in the USA!  Special, extra congrats to those athletes and relays who became New England Champions and set state records!

We have to begin with the double New England Champion, Bedford’s Anika Scott. Not only did she win the 100m High Hurdles in 13.94, but she reset her NH state record while also setting the New England record set back in 2012!!! Scott followed this performance by also winning the Long Jump with a state record leap of 19’11.75″!

Scott’s teammate, Jacob Redman won what many considered the race of the day. Executing a perfect race, Redman took the lead on pre-race favorite Andrew Thornton-Sherman with about 300 meters to go. Thornton-Sherman did not give an inch trying to overtake Redman on the homestretch. Both athletes leaned while falling across the finish line with Redman claiming the title with his 1:51.56 to 1:51.65. Congrats to Hanover’s Lucian Gleiser who also made the podium in 6th with a 1:53.80.

NH State record holder Concord’s Nick Reynolds did not disappoint as he claimed the New England title in the Javelin. His 2nd attempt yielded a mark of 193’5″ to win by almost 13 feet. Newport’s Kyle Ashley placed a strong 4th with a toss of 173’2″.

Manchester Memorial’s Chase Burris also claimed a New England title with a tremendous leap of 23’3.75″!! He won by only 2.5 inches. Concord’s Alain Twite garnered All-New England honors placing 6th with a mark of 22’4.5″. Twite came back to place 2nd in his stronger event with an incredible mark of 46’8.75″! Nice day for Twite.

While he did not claim a title, Bishop Brady’s Joshua Gentchos had himself a day as he placed 2nd in both the 100 and 200 meters.! Gentchos began with breaking the NH state record in the 100 meters crossing in 10.68! He followed with placing 2nd in the 200 meters out of the penultimate heat crossing in 21.96. This surprised many. Further surprise was Keene’s Chris Stevens placing 3rd overall out of 2nd heat (4 total heats, with the fastest seed times in the 4th heat). Stevens crossed in 22.07.

Dover’s Anique Poulin battled to the end crossing in 2:13.35 and earned a 2nd place for her efforts. Winnacunnet’s Charlotte Koutalidis placed 4th in 2:14.20 with Bedford’s Fiona Lee claiming the final podium slot in 2:14.98.

PCA’s Jonas Teeter continued his dream season rolling to 2nd place in the 3200 meters crossing in 9:13.34. Con-Val’s William Simard also made podium placing 6th, also with a personal record of 9:15.42. Bedford’s Kelseigh O’Neil also made podium in the girls 3200 placing 5th in 10:57.39. Oyster River’s Mackenzie Cook had a nice bounce back race placing 6th out of the first heat in a 11:00.99 solo effort.

Winnacunnet’s Wyatt Patterson placed 2nd in the pole vault clearing 14’9″. He was in a jump off with the champion Liam Wright of Hall, CT.
