The 2025 Seacoast Championships, held at Exeter High School on May 23, brought together some of the top athletes and teams in the region for a thrilling showcase of speed, power, and poise. Here’s a full recap of every event—track, field, and relays. As with the whole season, the athletes certainly stepped up to the challenge the variable weather presented. And, hats off once again to the Exeter Track and Field community for putting on a first class event!
Girls
Sprints & Hurdles

In the high hurdles, Bristol Shirland of Coe-Brown won in a season’s best 15.29, followed by Avery Baumgardt (Oyster River, 15.59) and Sydney MacVicar (Exeter, 17.02). The 100 followed and the freshman phenom Leiana Cory (Portsmouth) impressed once again winning with a 12.48, holding off another freshman, Lilah Fitzpatrick (Coe-Brown, 13.02) and Carolyn Milks (Portsmouth, 13.08).

Charlotte Beaudoin swept the next 2 sprint events winning both the 400 and 200 meters. She took the 400 in a comfortable 58.93. Martelle McBride (Exeter, 1:01.03) and Madeline Poteet (Exeter, 1:01.86) finished close behind. In the 200, Beaudoin took the title in 26.47 to Fitzpatrick’s 26.94 with Spaulding’s Sophie West 3rd in 27.03.
Maitri Clifford of Winnacunnet claimed gold in 47.69, narrowly edging Sienna Metcalf of Portsmouth (47.95) and Elizabeth Carty of Oyster River (49.43).

Distance
One of the best races of the day was the 1600, Alexis Paterna of Exeter and Mackenzie Cook of Oyster River once again battled pushing each other to impressive times in challenging conditions. Paterna would take this one in 4:55.53 to edge Cook’s 4:56.19. Eli Cross was back on the podium in third (5:08.46). The 800 was a clean sweep for Exeter, led by Isabelle Bremer in 2:18.50, with Cross (2:22.68) and Brianna Paterna (2:24.75) right behind her. And in a solo effort from gun to tape in the 3200, Haley Kavanagh (Oyster River) ran away with the win in 11:00.41, while Leah Unger (Raymond, 12:20.07) and Lily Fiorenza (Dover, 12:31.08) placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Relays

Leading off the day on the track, Portsmouth captured gold in the 4×800 in 10:35.52, ahead of Exeter (10:52.54) and Dover (10:54.41). Portsmouth (Cory, Milks, Carter, others) took the 4×100 clocking 50.09, followed by Coe-Brown (52.16) and Exeter (52.44). The 4x400m Relay saw Exeter storm to the win in 4:08.65, holding off Portsmouth (4:12.39) and Winnacunnet (4:23.76).
Field Events
Vertical Jumps

Danielle Bates of Timberlane cleared 5-03.00 to win the High Jump, setting a new meet record. A three-way tie for second at 4-09.00 went to Savanna Comeau (Somersworth), Sya McKay (Somersworth), and Emma Lander (Portsmouth). Coe-Brown’s Shannon Elizabeth won the pole vault clearing 9-07.00, followed by teammate Brooke Bachhuber (9-01.00) and a tie for third between Brooke Kelly (Dover) and Brooke Main (Coe-Brown) at 8-07.00.
Horizontal Jumps
Avery Baumgardt (Oyster River) swept the Seacoast titles in both horizontal jumps. In the long jump, she flew to 16-10.50, with teammate Nevaeh Addieg second at 15-10.25, and Jazzlyn Curry of Coe-Brown third at 15-07.00. In the Triple Jump, she won with 34-01.00. Danielle Bates took silver with 33-10.00, and Sya McKay earned third with 32-07.00.
Throws

Madelyn Donohue of Raymond won the shot put with 35-01.75. Isabelle Grenier of Coe-Brown threw 34-02.50, and Autumn Fabiano of Exeter was third with 32-08.00. The Discus saw Samantha Gutowski of Exeter winning with a toss of 97-02, followed closely by Skyla Hall (Somersworth, 92-10) and Madelyn Donohue (Raymond, 92-07). Mollie Sexton of Oyster River won the javelin with 110-03. Maggie Pataki of Portsmouth threw 105-04 for silver, and Madelyn Donohue added another top-three finish with 104-11.

Exeter displayed remarkable depth, especially in the distance races and relays, anchored by names like Alexis Paterna, Isabelle Bremer, and Eli Cross. Coe-Brown shined in the field and hurdles with Shannon Elizabeth, Bristol Shirland, and Jazzlyn Curry. Oyster River rode the double wins from Avery Baumgardt and a powerful distance squad, while Portsmouth stacked points across sprints and relays with Leiana Cory, Carolyn Milks, and their relay teams.

Boys
Sprints & Hurdles

Josh Kelly of Portsmouth claimed gold in 15.14 in the High Hurdles to kick off the sprint and hurdle events. Ryan Jamison (Winnacunnet, 15.68) and Brogan Grzybowski (Coe-Brown, 15.76) rounding out the podium. Jamison returned to win the 300m Hurdles in 39.44, with Cameron Lee (Coe-Brown, 40.63) and Kelly (Portsmouth, 43.17) in second and third.

The sprints were the events to watch on Friday! In the 100, Talon Ouellette (Oyster River) led the way in 11.10, followed by Dennis Glidden (Raymond, 11.22) and Phineas Reardon (Exeter, 11.28). Ouellette would place 2nd in the 400 (50.17) behind seacoast champ Owen Janetos (Winnacunnet) who won the 1 lapper in 49.33! Portsmouth’s Theo Beattie had a great close to nab 3rd in 50.25. Ouelette would return the favor to Janetos in the 200 however picking up his 2nd Seacoast title of the day winning with the lean 22.45 to 22.46! St. Thomas’s Shane McKeen was 3rd in 23.01. What a finale!

Distance
Winnacunnet’s Ryan Zumbach kicked things off in record-breaking fashion as he broke NHXCTF’s Tyler Sheedy’s meet record in the 1600 in a blistering 4:18.50. He was followed by Nolan Peters (Portsmouth, 4:29.78) and Oliver Lehman (Oyster River, 4:30.24). Will Hart of Portsmouth held off a hard charging Zumbach to win the 800 in 2:00.37. Zumbach came from way back to grab 2nd in 2:02.14 with his teammate Andrew Martin-Biggs taking 3rd in 2:02.27. Oliver Schartner (St. Thomas Aquinas) won a close 3200 in 10:33.67, narrowly ahead of Ryker Andersen (Oyster River, 10:33.97) and Benjamin Patrick (Newmarket, 10:36.57).

Relays
St. Thomas Aquinas kicked things off by winning the 4×800 relay title in 8:41.59, with Exeter (8:47.64) and Newmarket (8:58.04) taking second and third. Coe-Brown won the 4×100 in 44.86, holding off Exeter (45.76) and Dover (45.87). Exeter blazed to a new meet record in the 4×400 in 3:27.96, followed by Coe-Brown (3:35.85) and Winnacunnet (3:36.05).
Vertical Jumps
Three athletes shared the win in the High Jump at 5-06.00: Dennis Glidden (Raymond), Ben Bloom (Portsmouth), and Eli Benjamin (Spaulding). Kelly Moriarty of Portsmouth cleared 12-01.00 for the win in the pole vault and was followed by Alex Conner (Coe-Brown, 11-07.00) and Thomas Eastwood (Exeter, 11-07.00, tie-break).
Horizontal Jumps
Patrick Thompson of Epping took top honors in the Long Jump at 19-04.25, with Dennis Glidden (Raymond, 18-11.25) and Jackson Doran (Coe-Brown, 18-09.25) taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Abraham Siegel led a 1–2 finish for Portsmouth in the Triple Jump with a mark of 38-01.00, followed by Coville Getman (36-04.00) and Kaleb Fuller of Winnacunnet (35-09.00).
Throws

Kellen Bateman of Exeter threw 47-05.00 to win the shot put. Deshaun Bailey (Somersworth, 38-08.00) and Gideon Beal (Portsmouth Christian, 37-04.00) completed the podium. Max Scopel of Oyster River took the win in the discus with a toss of 128-10, followed by Connor Lazarz (Dover, 120-04) and Aadit Noble (Portsmouth, 114-02). The jav saw Jason Bragg of Sanborn Regional launch a throw of 149-02 to top the field. Nate Gray of Somersworth was second at 144-01, and Seth Kozak of Portsmouth was third with 139-04.
Final Team Scores (Top 5)
Portsmouth’s win was built on balance, with sprints, jumps, and relays all contributing. Winnacunnet had outstanding performances from Owen Janetos, Ryan Zumbach, and Ryan Jamison, while Exeter impressed in the relays and throws. Oyster River saw strong showings from Talon Ouellette and their distance squad, tying with Coe-Brown, who excelled in technical events.
