Describe how you are handling the COVID-19 related situations – remote learning, training in isolation, etc…
My schooling hasn’t changed much since I am a homeschooler, so online learning has stayed the same. During this time of COVID-19, I have done workouts on my driveway and in my basement for lifts and injury prevention. I’ve also been doing some cross-training, including: biking & hiking while practicing social distancing.
When did you start competing in track and field?
I started competing in track & field when I was in the 4th grade.
What is your favorite track and field event? What are your personal bests?
My favorite event has to be triple jump because of how unique and fun it is. My personal best in triple jump is 35’ 8.75”.
Describe your favorite competition memory:
I would have to say that my favorite competition memory was when I won in the triple jump at Meet of Champions, junior year.
If you could do any event in track and field, which one would it be and why?
If I were to choose an event I would definitely try pole vault because it looks like a blast!
Describe your favorite workout:
I love plyometric workouts! Mainly jump drills for strength and endurance, as well as short sprint drills.
How does your coach motivate you?
With smiles, high-fives, thumbs-up, and encouraging words.
What motivates you most to do well?
We all are gifted with certain talents and I want to use all my talents to the best of my ability. To think positive, and stay calm, collected, and happy.
If you go to college, do you plan to compete in track and field? And where?
I am going to attend Saint Joseph’s College of Maine, and I will be competing in indoor and outdoor track & field.
What is your favorite thing about Track and Field?
I absolutely love the environment and the people. Track and field is like no other sport I have ever been involved in. Unlike most sports, my track & field opponents were almost like my teammates. They were there to help me get a mark during run-throughs and stand on my blocks to help me prepare for my event. Having many people be so supportive and encouraging was very special, which makes track & field so unique and fun.
What is your favorite track facility?
Pelham H.S.track facility because I have made so many happy memories there starting when I was 12 and won the standing long jump at Hershey Track & Field State Meet, and more good jumps throughout my middle and high school career.
What is your go-to pre-meet meal?
Since most of the meets I competed in were early in the day, my go-to-pre-meet meal is plain cheerios with sliced banana, peanut butter on toast, a handful of arugula, and beet juice.
If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
Bahamas
Do you have a favorite pre-race song?
“We Are The Champions”
What would you do if you knew you could not fail?
I would probably give pole vault a go!
What is the best advice or quote ever given to you?
“Be faithful in small things because it is in them that your strength lies.” ~St. Teresa
