Middle School Update! Deerfield Boys Continue to Roll

Deerfield Wins Ocean State XC and Threepeats at 25th Thetford Woodsdeerf

After feeling the first sting of defeat at the 2015 Manchester Invitational. The Deerfield boys made the long trek down Route 93 to the very competitive Ocean State Cross Country Invitational. Competing against 26 other teams from five states, the three time NH State Champs got back to their winning ways led by 2015 Manchester Invitational champion Ryan Devine’s second place finish in 6:40 for the 2000 meter course. He was followed by David Cook 7th 7:00, Brandon Richards 19th 7:20, Brayden Kearns 39th 7:39, Brandon Comire 53rd 7:53, Joey O’ Brien 61st 8:01 and Connor Buffington 67th 8:05.

Deerfield Community School boys’ cross country team also captured their third straight Junior High title by winning the 25th Silver Jubilee Thetford Woods Trail Invitational. Deerfield’s Ryan Devine celebrated his 14th birthday by crushing the field of 150 runners in 9:14 over the 2700 meter rolling course. His time is the second fastest ever on this event. Teammate David Cook won a tough battle to place second overall in 9:32 just in front of Hampton Academy’s Noah Taracena 3rd 9:35. Tim Salter- Roy of Bellows Falls VT 4th 9:48, Asa Burows-Crane of Mt. Anthony VT 5th 9:49, and Devin Eaton of Hampton Academy 6th 9:55 all broke the coveted 10 minute barrier. Deerfield’s third man was Brandon Richards placing 7th in 10:06 a step ahead of Nathan Marouski, Randolph VT 8th 10:07, Sherman Thornton 9th 10:09 and Jack Taylor of Hampton Academy 10th 10:12 rounded out the top ten.

Deerfield’s championship team members were Brayden Kearns 11th 10:13, Joey O’Brien 20th 10:39, John Murphy 25th 10:44, Brandon Comire 26th 10:44, Connor Buffington 44th 11:06, Danny O’Brien 59th 11:33 and Brenden Uber 98th 12:40.

Deerfield won the team competition with 35 points over a very strong Hampton Academy squad 2nd 56 points. Stowe VT 3rd 99 points and Norwich VT 4th 139 finished just ahead of Amherst Regional MA 5th 148 points.

Deerfield’s Serena Britos 4th 11:07 and Caley Nault 5th 11:13 turned in quality performances to pace the Deerfield girls team to a fine 6th place finish.

Hampton Academy was the best NH team placing third overall, led by the trio of Kylee Quinlan 14th 11:32, Alexis Quinlan 18th 11:39 and Claire Rademacher 19th 11:40.

  1. Another strong performance by the Jimmy Mac coached Deerfield team. Congratulations to Ryan Devine for his strong performance on Saturday and good luck to the team as they roll into the Championship season.
