2016 Black Bear Invitational! Highlights, Results, Photos & Vids

On a perfect day for track and field in NH, athletes from across all three divisions descended on Coe-Brown and took full advantage of the opportunity.  Between the meet records, close team and individual battles, this meet had it all.  Below you will find results, links to interviews and highlights. Highlights!

Girls

• Bedford Girls win the battle of multi-state champions over Coe-Brown 74-64.
• Bedford sprayed points over several events, scoring 56 points across all field events with only pole vault as the exception.  Shanna Scribner led the way for the Bulldogs placing 2nd in Javelin and winning the Shot.
• White Mountain’s Alex Curtis was voted Outstanding Performer of the Meet.  She swept the hurdle events and set the meet record in the 300 Hurdles (45.02) in the process.
• OR’s Dominique Twombley did make it 2 consecutive weeks of sweeping the 100 and 200 continuing to lay claim to NH’s best sprinter title.
• NH’s premier distance runner, Maegan Doody made her distance debut coasting to the win in her best event the 1600 in 5:02.
• CBNA’s Brooke Laskowsky had a nice day.  She placed 3rd in the 1600 (5:11), won the 800 (2:19) and anchored the winning 4×800 relay.
• MV’s Kristie Schoffield chose the ‘traditional’ 3200/400 double, placing 2nd in the 32, and winning the 400 in one of the closest battles of the day over Timberlane’s Elise Renehan 58.72 to 58.93.
• Londonderry’s Yorgelis Ortiz won the long jump by just a few inches with a leap of 17’1.75″ over Milford’s Olivia Rougeau 16’9.75″
• Milford’s Nicole McMorrow broke the meet record with a leap of 35’9.5″ in the Triple Jump
• Bishop Guertin-bound Caroline Fischer won the inaugural Middle School Mile in 5:17.

Boys

• Buoyed by Kyle Faucher’s 26 points, the Timberlane Owls emerged as the team victors by only 3 points over D-III Kearsarge Cougars.
• Faucher put on one of the best shows of the day in the Javelin coming within 1 foot of the meet record with a toss of 178’9″.
• Kearsarge’s Troy Davis was Outstanding Performer of the Meet scoring 26 points by winning the Long and High Jumps and placing 3rd in the Triple Jump.  He also had one of the more dramatic moments of the day when he broke the HJ meet record clearing 6’6.5″ on his last attempt.
• Davis’s teammate Zach Astle won both the shot put and Discus to score 20 points.  Kearsarge has to be the odds-on favorite to win D-III this year.
• The showdown between Souhegan’s Sebastian Eaton and Portsmouth’s Andrew Scarlotto in the 100 and 200 did not disappoint. Eaton won both and broke the 200 meet record in the process 21.86.  Scarlotto also broke the 200 record with his blazing 22.65.
• Bedford’s Theodore Sarette edged Portsmouth’s Joey Auger 41.20 to 41.52 in the 300 Hurdles.
• Somersworth duo of Chance Ennis and Joey Wattimore placed 1-2 in the triple jump for the 2nd consecutive week.
• Timberlane’s Liam Kimball broke the meet record in the 800 (1:56.57)
• Winnacunnet’s 4×100 broke the meet record in 43.81.
• Concord-bound Ryan Devine won the inaugural Middle School Mile in 4:59.  He was pressed by Hollis-Brookline-bound Carson Bottomley and Mascenic Regional-bound Dakota Somero both timed in 5:01.
