The Kiwanis Freshman-Sophomore Track and Field Invitational gives younger track and field athletes the opportunity to flash their ability against competitors their own age. This year there are many 9th and 10th grade athletes that are at the top of the Division 1 and Division 2 Battlenotes. The entries close Friday night and it should be a fun meet to watch. Predictions were based on the teams that attended the meet last year and my guess at individual entries.
Boys to Watch:
Dalton Mutz (Concord): He will likely run either the 100m or 200m and be the favorite.
Joe Eichman (Merrimack): Long jump and Sprints.
Jadyn Ruimwijk (Pinkerton): The indoor 300m D1 champ will most likely be the top seed in the 200m.
David Vorbach (North): Best young distance runner in the state.
Billy Powers (Winnacunnet): Hurdles star undefeated in the 110HH this season to my knowledge.
Girls to Watch:
Grace Devanny (Concord) and Viankah Williams (Milford): The sprints will come down to which event these two decide to run. Both will be the favorite in the 100m or 200m.
Julie Nigro (BG): Already under 60 seconds in the 400m as a 9th grader!
Jacqueline Gaughan (Exeter): One of the best distance runners in New England. Whatever she runs will be fast.
Sydney Lewis (South): 9th grader already over 5’2” in the HJ.
Sarah Williams (Dover): Top young thrower having an excellent season.
