Under near perfect conditions for most events, the Granite State boasted 4 individual titles and a state record. Winnacunnet’s Billy Powers claimed the New England title in the Highs in 14.09 and nearly the 300 Hurdles placing a close second in 38.06. Jackie Gaughan won the 3200 with a measured effort of 10:38.60 to cap a year which saw the Exeter junior win the New England XC and indoor 3200 meter titles as well.
North’s Triston Delicema, only a sophomore, leaped into the 48′ range again to become New England Champ in the Triple. Merrimack
Valley’s Kristie Schoffield, once again running a tactically superior race, blazed to her 800 meter title in 2:06.90. Schoffield joins Hannah Parker (Coe-Brown) as the only other female athlete from NH to run in the 2:06s! While Schoffield had a near state record, Pinkerton’s Noah Woodman ran the fastest 400 in NH History racing to a 4th place finish in 48.24 to break Londonderry’s Steve Carroll’s 2009 record of 48.29!
Triple MOC champ, Central’s Katya Levasseur garnered the runner-up in the Long Jump with a leap of 18’00.75″. West’s Julia Robitaille placed 3rd in the 3200 (10:53.80)! Pelham’s Mia Herrling tied for 3rd in the High Jump clearing 5’5″ while Concord’s Grace Devanny placed 4th in the 400 in 57.07. Also placing 4th was Souhegan’s 4×800 meter relay team in 9:23.39. Picking up 5th places were Lebanon’s Corinne Kennedy (800-2:10.29), Milford’s Rebecca Durham (1600-4:58.42) and Lebanon’s Kath Merchant (Discus – 126’4″). Merchant also placed 6th in the Javelin (121’8″).
Picking up final podium spots with 6th place finishes included Bow’s Dominique Biron (Long Jump – 17’6.5″), Salem’s Katya Rojco (300 Hurdles – 45.75), and South’s Kendall Bush (3200 – 11:01.08).
On the boys’ side, capping a phenomenal prep career was Alvirne’s Noah Bellomo placing a gutsy second in the 800 once again running 1:52 and change. Capping a stellar season was North’s David Vorbach placed a strong 4th in the 3200 in 9:14.08.
NH certainly made their presence felt in the Highs as Pinkerton’s Adam Spencer placed 5th (15.00) and South’s Terrell Lewis was 6th in 15.03. Keene’s Scott Rathbun also placed 4th in the Pole Vault clearing 14’9″ while Pinkerton’s Eduardo Fernandez reached the podium with a 6th place finish in the 100 in 11.13. Hopkinton’s Kevin McGrath tied for 6th in the High Jump clearing 6’3″.
