The 2018 Merrimack Valley Invitational is slated to begin at 10:00 am this Saturday, April 21st in Penacook, NH. As with the previous 18 years, it promises to be an incredible day of track and field with 30+ teams and well over 1000 athletes competing!

Girls
With superstars Kristie Schoffield and Corinne Kennedy having graduated, the fields in the sprints, hurdles and distance events are wide open. Who will be the cream which rises to the top? Oyster River’s Xiana Twombly makes her return to the track as she is the top seed in the 100 and the second seed in the 200. Her teammate Amelia Concannon also is a top seed in the 400 while ranked third in the 200. Sanborn’s Kristina Allard of Sanborn is the top seed in the 200. In the hurdles, hometown favorite MV’s Kaitlyn Covell is the top seed in both the highs and the intermediates.
Raymond’s Anna Harmon will be making her MV Invite debut. The indoor 1k state champ is ranked #1 in the 800 and is seeded at 2:22. Hanover’s Leila Trummel is the top seed in the 1600 at 5:08 while it looks like the 3200 will be battle between Kearsarge’s Mya Dube and Oyster River’s Danielle Slavin.
In the field events, looks like there is a showdown brewing between Leb’s Sophia Miller and Kingswood’s Caitlin Carpenter while even a bigger battle is set up in the throws. With names like Kath Merchant (Leb), Kathleen Collins (CBNA), Meg Sheehan (Sanborn), and Meg Buchalski (St. Thomas), you should definitely make your way to the circles!
Boys
As with the girls, with names like Sebastian Eaton gone, there will be some new majordomos across events. Beginning with the sprints, Oyster River’s Connor Manning is ranked towards the top in several events. The 200 looks like a dual between Trinity’s Stephen Duckett and Sanborn’s Kashief Bogannam. Hanover’s Colme Siegne is ranked third in the 400 and is the top seed in the 800. Siegne should see plenty of competition as Kearsarge’s Hunter Burns is the second seed.
The 1600 should be one of the races of the day as Campbell’s Jeffrey Allen takes on Pelham’s Cam Starr, OR’s Kieran Murphy and MV’s David Reynolds, among others! Allen is also top seed in the 3200.
In the field events Hopkinton’s Kevin McGrath is the top seed in both the Long and High Jumps. Lebanon’s Zach Petrin should challenge McGrath in the Long and top seed Sam Ebner of Plymouth in the Triple.
In the throws, Marcus Roper (Lebanon) should continue to dominate in shot and disc, while the Javelin should be a battle among Zach Andrews (Somersworth), Orion Clachar (CBNA) and Nathan Bazzochi (Campbell).
