2018 MV Invite Recap!

After an extended winter, the New Hampshire Track and Field community got back at it this past weekend with two large invitationals, The MV Invite for Division 2 and 3 teams and Nashua North Invitational for mostly Division 1 teams sprinkling in a few teams from Massachusetts.  Although it is spring break, both meets certainly had some great highlights!  Beginning with the MV Invite, the MV Invite Meet Hub brought to you by the law firm of Orr & Reno (thanks!!!), has all of the meet’s results and livestream, and will be updated with 2018 interviews and photos soon.  Below are the highlights!

Girls:

Do we have a new sprint star being developing in Sanborn?  Freshman Kristina Allard not only swept the 200 in 26.65 and the 400 in 59.98, but she was voted the meet’s top performer!  Solid times!  Allard would also have a solid role in Sanborn’s winning 4×100 (52.56) and 4×400 (4:18.92) teams .  Plymouth’s Alexis Stonis took the 100 in 13.31, but 2nd-4th place had to go to the hundredth as three freshmen all leaned at the tape.  In the end it was Zoe Onyango (Hanover) edging Jennifer Nadig (Oyster River) and Gwenyth Dahlinger (Pelham) for second.  In the huddle events , it was Adrienne Bevins winning the Highs in 16.44 edging hometown favorite Kaitlyn Covell.  Covell would bounce back to win the Intermediate Huddles in 48.91.

Raymond’s Anna Harmon made her invitational debut and did not disappoint winning in 2:17.61, while Rachel Hurley won the 1600 in 5:19.80.  Kearsarge’s Mya Dube unleashed a powerful kick to take the 3200 in 11:32.73.  The Coe-Brown girls took the 4×800 title in 10:05.40.

The field events were highlighted by Coe-Brown’s Kathleen Collins’s 144′ 6″ meet record bomb of a throw in the Discus breaking the former record by close to 16 feet.  Leb’s Kath Merchant would take the Shot with a toss of 38’9.5″ while John Stark’s Ashley Audet would edge Plymouth freshman Samantha Meier by five inches, 111’7″ to 111’2″.

The jumps saw Pelham’s Callie Lindsey beat Kennett’s Chloe VanDyne on misses as they both cleared 5’2″. Lindsey would also win Triple Jump with a hop, skip and a jump of 32’6.5″.  Conant’s Abigail Drew would win the Long Jump while Hanover’s Anna Stafford took the victory in the pole vault (8′).

Boys

Lebanon’s Marcus Roper was voted outstanding performer of the meet by virtue of his wins in the Shot (49’7.5″) and Discus (152’10”). Both solid tosses, especially this early in the season.  Somersworth’s Zach Andrews nipped CBNA’s Orion Clachar in the Javelin 149’6″ to 149’0″.  Clachar would come back to take the 300 Huddles in 42.30. Pelham’s John Ellie took the High’s in 16.50.

As previewed, the sprints were extremely competitive as Sanborn’s Kashief Bogannam won the 100 (11.54) outleaning Goffstown’s Andrew Duval (11.55).  Bogannam would go on to place 2nd in the 200 to Trinity’s Stephen Duckett, who flew to a 22.52 clocking.  OR’s Connor Manning would win the 400 in 52.73.

In the distance events, Campbell’s Jeffrey Allen came back to take the 1600 with a strong kick winning in 4:28.21 to Cameron Starr’s 4:31.01 (great to see Starr back!). Moultonborough’s Tyler McLaughlin held off MV’s David Reynolds to win the 3200 in 9:43.48 while Kearsarge’s Hunter Burns won the 800 gun to tape in 2:04.03.

In the jumps, Hopkinton’s Kevin McGrath put on a show winning the High Jump in 6’4″ and Long Jump with a 19’10.5″ leap.  Plymouth’s Sam Ebner would take the Triple (40’8.25″) while Coe-Brown’s Tyler Troy soared over 12’6″ to take the pole vault.
