Athlete Feature: Oyster River’s Lily Doody

When did you start running?

I started my running career with Oyster River Middle School Cross Country.

Briefly describe the experience as a member of your team/program.  Give an example of some of the “fun” stuff your team does together.

The Oyster River Girls Cross Country team has been a huge part of my high school experience. I’ve met some of my closest friends through the team. I look forward to cross country every year because each season we do a lot of fun traditions that bring us closer as a team. One special tradition we do is called “secret bobcats”. We are randomly assigned a member on the team before every meet, and then we have to get that girl a nice gift before the race such as food or an encouraging letter. Its a lot of fun and our team really enjoys it!

What are your team goals for this season?

A big goal we have as a program is to have a healthy team which can qualify for New Englands this year for the third year in a row.

What has been your greatest challenge?

I have experienced a few challenges with running in the past. Freshman year I couldn’t run cross country because I had back surgery that restricted me from running for awhile.

What motivates you most to do well?

My family, friends and my teammates really push me everyday on and off the course to do my best. Another thing that motivates me to perform my best is my aspirations to run in college.

My favorite workout for cross country is any type of workout on the track. I specialize in middle distance running and I love the sport of Track and Field

What is your favorite cross training activity?

Last summer I did a lot of swimming and biking for cross training which was a lot of fun to do with my teammates.

Post Malone really calms the pre race nerves I have before races sometimes. It’s also been a tradition for the guys to play music on the bus to get us pumped before our races.

If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?

If I could go anywhere I would go to Greece.

What would you do if you knew you could not fail?

I would buy a lottery ticket.

What is the best advice ever given to you?

Trust the process

What is your favorite quote?

“Grow through what you go through”

What is your favorite thing about Cross Country?

My favorite thing about cross country is my team, cross country wouldn’t be the same without the team aspect.

My favorite High School course is definitely Derryfield Park.

What is your favorite race outside of the high school season?

My favorite race outside of high school would be Marinas Miles. I enjoy running this road race because it’s a special event for the Oyster River Community.
