Congratulations to the number of teams which made the trek to Coe-Brown Northwood Academy for the first state championship contested this season. The D2/D3 NH JV State Champions were crowned on a cool Wednesday afternoon. The girls led off and by the mile it was clear who’s day this would be as the Hanover Marauders took the race from the get go. Hanover occupied 4 of the 6-7 in the front pack early. Eve McLaughlin, Penelope Collins, Mary Westrich, and Lily Terry were joined by Coe-Brown’s Bella Lemay and Hopkinton’s Amelia Walsh. In the end, it was McLaughlin and Collins battling until the end both clocking 22:35 with McLaughlin getting the nod on the lean. Westrich would be 3rd with Lemay 4th and Walsh 5th in 23:20. Terry would place 6th in 23:29. Mascenic’s MacKenzie Vaillancourt placed 7th in 23:38, Oyster River’s Jahrie Houle 8th in 23:56, Hopkinton’s Ava Rothe 9th in 23:56 and Hanover’s Iris Freeman rounded out the top 10 in 24:20.
As you may have surmised, placing 5 in the top 10, Hanover scored a scant 21 points to win the 2022 State JV Title. Host school CBNA was 2nd with 68 points edging Hopkinton’s 76 points and Oyster River’s 94.
In the boys race it was CBNA’s Maxwell Lemay who led gun to tape taking the title in 18:12. Con-Val’s James Post would gradually reel in Souhegan’s Ben Gaudet over the length of the course to take 2nd in 18:43. Coe-Brown freshman Keegan Sousa would be third crossing the line in 18:51 striding away from Trinity’s Cooper Krause. Hanover’s Noah Branchflower was 6th in 18:58 a couple strides of another Trinity runner Noah Levesque (19:00) who edged CBNA’s Sanjith Nomula (19:01) for 7th. Oyster River’s Micah Bessette was 9th in 19:27 while Trinity’s Eli Donovan rounded out the top 10 in 19:28.
While Trinity and Coe-Brown both placed 3 in the top 10, the host Bears placed 5 in the top 14 with senior Caleb Medina 13th and Dylan Plowman 14th in 19:38 and 19:45 respectively, to take the state title with just 36 points. Trinity would take the runner-up plaque scoring 62 points. Souhegan was 3rd with 84 points just 6 points lower than Hanover.
